QUOTE (Rocky @ Sep 19 2006, 05:53 PM)
If a ball hits a receiver in the chest, or in both of his hands, its pretty easy to figure out.

I'm still mad about that play where johnson got creamed. If Harrell hadn't lobbed it up and made it float, Johnson could've seen that hit coming.

Yeah. The recievers dropped some easy catches, but I think they're used to having the football flying directly towards them...not dropping from the sky.

Please Tech. Shape up. Please.

QUOTE (jwttu @ Sep 19 2006, 05:49 PM)
Aaron do you not think that Todd has a stronger arm and may be able to make more of the longer plays. From what I have seen TCu may have been an off-day but it just seems like GH doesn't have much arm stregnth.

While Chris Todd undoubtedly has the stronger arm of the two, Graham Harrell can easily make every throw asked of him in Mike Leach's offense. In fact, arm strength is not nearly as important to Leach as accuracy, reading the defense and going through one's progressions.

Todd lost out to Harrell this fall, more or less, because he did not do the cerebral things as well.

Kliff Kingsbury didn't have much of an arm of which to speak and he did fine, same for Cody Hodges. In fact, if it was all arm strength, Phillip Daugherty wouldn't have transferred to Sam Houston State last August.

If you notice, Harrell actually checked out of a large number of plays against UTEP with great success. He has a ginormous football IQ, a very firm grasp of the offense and (if he stays healthy) will be more successful than any quarterback Texas Tech has had under Leach. I feel comfortable in saying that TCU was an aberration.

Interestingly enough, the guy with the strongest arm and is probably the best NFL quarterback prospect is Arizona State transfer Derek Shaw who has to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer regulations. It will be interesting to see, next spring, whether Leach pays lip service to a quarterback battle or actually opens up the competition.

I disagree. I feel pretty comfortable in saying that, based on what he did in Lubbock, Graham Harrell was the best quarterback in the history of the Texas Tech football program.

The case:
- Co-National Player of the Year in 2008 (The Sporting News).
- Johnny Unitas Award (Best Senior QB) in 2008.
- First-Team All-American (AFCA).
- Sammy Baugh Trophy Winner (Best Passer) in 2007.
- All-time Division I FBS leader in career touchdown passes (134).
- Leading passer in Big 12/Texas Tech history (15,793 yards); second all-time in Division I FBS.
- Only quarterback in NCAA history to throw for 5,000-plus yards in multiple seasons.
- Guided the team to a 12-game win streak the spanned the the 2007 and 2008 seasons and included wins over the No. 4, No. 21, No. 23, No. 1 and No. 9 teams in the country.
- Led the team to two January bowl games in three years as a starter; the program has had four total since 1957.
- Engineered the biggest comeback in bowl history in the 2006 Insight Bowl against Minnesota.
- Only starting quarterback in school history to win three games against Texas A&M; Joe Barnes beat the Aggies twice, in 1972 and 1973.

He falls apart when he doesn't have an open primary or secondary and his line not holding forever. I think BJ was the best quarterback we had until he hurt himself doing something stupid.

Has a tech quarterback ever played for a descent amount of time in the NFL?

What bearing does this have on Leach's success as a college football coach?

Damn man, it wasn't a rhetorical question. I was just asking, or was that an attack against Mike Leach? Aaron answered it for me.

Why must you get all up in arms about internet forums?
