1.) For whatever reason, windows installer is not working.
"Windows® installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I can't install anything from a CD or from a download. 2.) Also, my CD/DVD-RW drive no longer shows as being able to burn DVDs. (Although I think I can solve this if I reinstall Nero...which I can't do until the first issue is resolved ARRRGH!!) 3.) My portable USB 2.0 hard-drive (WD 600U017-000 60GB Passport silver) is no longer recognized by windows. HELP ME -------------------- |

Do you have a magic wand? Then just say Repairo!
Try to boot from the windows CD and repair from that. -------------------- Southern Rock, beer and bears!

::EDIT::
Here's another error that popped up earlier when I tried to reinstall Nero: "Windows® installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. AppName: msiexec.exe AppVer: 4.5.6001.22159 ModName: kernel32.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.3541 Offset: 00018958" -------------------- |

looks like your kernal may be corrupted. You might still be able to recover with a installer cd.

did you do what chook said and try repairing XP from the bootable disc?
also, try Windows Update if that will work... do you have SP2? If not, try and upgrade. ya never know, it might replace some files that became corrupted or something. -------------------- ![]() |

also things i'd try: try checking your hard drive for errors, try updating drivers.
