I did not see anything posted about this, so I thought I would start a thread...
Some big changes are coming in October and November of this year, Continental Airlines is leaving SkyTeam (Delta, Air France, KLM, etc.) and will be joining the Star Alliance (Lufthansa, United, Asiana, ANA, Singapore, etc.). Because of the change, they are adding a non-stop flight to Frankfurt from Houston to connect with Lufthansa's hub there. Delta (which is now in control of Northwest) is adding a new Lubbock flight, something that airport hasn't seen in a while. They will be flying from Memphis two times a day. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

The MEM-LBB flight is random, but I think it works for Northwest/Delta because it connects to a bunch of European flights.
What will be interesting is what happens to the route after Northwest ceases to exist and Delta closes the Memphis hub (speculation). My guess is, Delta will move the flight to Atlanta, which is good all around. SkyTeam isn't the greatest but it really depends on where you are going. Star Alliance's coverage in Asia and Europe is unbelievable, but One World covers Asia and South America fairly well. It will be a pain to get to places like Santiago, Chile on Star but really easy to connect to just about any city in Asia on some really good carriers. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

also of note in the airline news is that the first fully private commercial airport has opened in the US in Branson, MO. It will be interesting to see if this works out and becomes more wide-spread.
