How about you give more money to American students instead of giving tax payer money to dirty illegals? Or better yet provide free universal education.

Foreign exchange programs are huge in any developed country where classes are taught in English. There are international students here in Germany + Denmark who know no German/Danish but jump through the hurdles to get here and study because the schools are top notch -- and they aren't even free for international kids (for citizens, they are). We always hear politicians touting how many people come to study in the US, however, if I would guess , those numbers are inflated because of the size of the country as well as the desire for international students to learn English better (not necessarily advance in their respective fields). Also, I would be interested to see the ratio between international students from developed countries to developing countries. I am inclined to think that people from developed countries don't bother with studying abroad in the US because they know that they have just as good enough facilities at home. *shrug* --------------------  |

I don't think we have monopoly on higher education but I think we have a large majority share. I do not have data to back it up but it has always seemed to me that the K-12 schools of some other countries are much better than ours, while our universities tend to be better than theirs. I think it stems from Asian countries or India that their K-12 kids are in school longer each day, more days per week (6? not sure), and studying more advanced material earlier. While this is great and leads to higher educated kids, IMHO it's also a detriment to them socially. Everywhere I have worked so far I must say that more often than not, the people of one of those foreign origins tends to have a difficult time socially or even just in their communication with their coworkers. I think they feel that it's not important in their K-12 schools but I disagree. It becomes difficult to work with someone who you can't communicate with or have a rapport with.
