Absolutely no point whatsoever to buy a mere .38 revolver when a .357 will fire both .38's AND .357's.

Not to mention .357s tend to have a little more meat to em, less recoil (when firing .38s anyways wink.gif)

i agree with this. but the colt defender is easy to find, and pretty cheap. it can be found anywhere, that was my main suggestion of it.

What about a combat shotgun? Or an smg? Ok, yeah, maybe I've been playing a teensy bit too much FO3. laugh.gif

Seriously, though, how about some semi-auto pistol suggestions? Whatever I might get, I plan to go out and learn how to shoot it, so I'll be fine as long as there isn't an insanely steep learning curve.

I recently helped a girl here at work buy one, she ended up with a Ruger P89 9mm. Very nice gun. My buddy in Lubbock had one and I shot it a lot and liked it, and hers is no different. Aluminum frame, 15 round mag, and very reasonably priced for a semi-auto (~$350-400).

btw spec, the learning curve on shooting isn't really much at all. it's cleaning that's the PITA. but that's the main thing, you clean the thing every time you shoot it, no ifs ands or buts about it. so you need to get one that you don't mind cleaning every time.

If looking at a semi-auto, move the slide back and forth a few times on a gun you are looking at, to make sure its not going to be too heavy or hard to do if you need to chamber a round in a hurry. (unless you keep a round chambered at all times)

I only mention it because i've known girls to have trouble with harder slides...

TAURUS 24/7 PRO

i have 2 buddies that now own these. i've fired the .40 cal version, it comes in 9mm, .40 and .45 zach has fired it as well. i personally think the gun handles almost as well as my SIG. the grip is a smaller size, so if you're worried about that, it won't be an issue here. is a 15+1 in .40, and 17+1 in 9mm for magazine capacity. it includes a safety, which is a nice option, since if you don't like them, you simply have the option to not engage it. taking it apart is pretty simple too. i believe that to field strip the gun for cleaning there is really only 6 pieces. after reading the instructions on it once, i was able to take it apart and reassemble no problem. gun costs between $325-$400 right now, most places will offer them, even Academy.

i'd prefer a semi-auto over a revolver but that's just my personal preference

spec do you have big or small hands?

Eh, average size. Little on the large size for a girl -- 7" long, 3.5" across.

I have this gun. Its reliable, but def not the most accurate. I think this loaded with some hydrashocks.

If you still haven't decided on something and I am in Austin visiting my brother and sister, I'll invite you along to shoot it.

I'd recommend an M1911 for home defense

Btw if you want to 'test drive' a few hand guns to see first hand what you prefer, let me know. I'll take you to a range here. I have most calibers save for .25 (they're worthless) and .32

I don't think christine is mentally stable enough to own a gun.

I have a bad feeling about it ... I can see her robbing a bank or a porn store for sure crying.gif

Replace 'christine' with 'aaron' and you might have a point there

Man, last time I went to a bank I started thinking about Bode diagrams, not money.
