I could resell anything. I thought of $500 bills because a $500 bill was posted on another board which gave me the idea. Plus, it's valuable enough that you could make a good amount of money without buying/reselling in bulk.

I have no problem sharing, probably should have shared when the promotion went live a month back. One of Microsoft's companies, live.com, has a promotion running where you can get 30% off Ebay purchases, up to $250. All you have to do is go to live.com, search for items on Ebay (BIN only, not live auctions), and you can get 30% off the purchase price (pre shipping). A ton of people have exploited this - they'll list something for 15% higher than it's value and advertise that you can use the live.com discount to get 30% off in their description subtitles. Both the buyer and seller win - the buyer saves an extra 15%, and the seller makes an extra 15%. And I guess live.com gets more traffic to their site. Not really sure what they're trying to accomplish with the promotion, nor do I give a shit.

I saw someone posted a picture of a $500 bill on some sports board and I got to thinking. Use that to exploit the discount. Initially I thought it would be a good idea to use $100 bills. I list a $100 bill for $120 on Ebay and get a buddy to hit the BIN. I make $20, he makes $16. Repeat process. Only two problems though - Ebay's rules about selling money are somewhat muddled, I'm pretty sure you have to market money as a collectible (like old coins and shit). Plus, I'm lazy and taking the time to do that ten times and only making $160 isn't worth it to me.

Initially I thought $500 bills were still in production, just rarely used by banks unless someone was making large cash withdrawals. Turns out they've been out of print for years and are worth more than 500 bones. If I could say buy them for face, list them for $600, I'd make $100 every time and whoever bought it would make $80. Using money is better than using say an Xbox360, because money has tangible value. $500 bills can still be changed at a bank. Do that ten times and you've got a grand, enough for a nice mini vacation. All in a day or two's work.

Is it unethical? Probably, not that I remotely care. Half of the reasons the government gives to collect tax from us I consider unethical. Microsoft, live.com's parent company, has many unethical practices. I read the rules for the promotion, it basically states that as long as you use their search engine, you can use the discount on anything listed on Ebay via Buy It Now. It's legal to sell currency on Ebay. Don't fault me for finding a loophole and using it to make money. If live.com was that concerned about getting ripped off, they'd change their user agreement to prevent such exploits.


Oh, and FYI, Christine, I gambled on sports last year when I didn't have any money because I was a dumbass and wasted all my paycheck getting drunk at the bar every night. I used the money to invest in "normal" shit like bonds, stocks (unfortunately), and precious metals. And cars. I like buying, fixing up, and reselling cars. I've bet on exactly one game this year, for one specific reason. USC was a 4.5 point favorite against Ohio State and I didn't place a bet. Only when some Iphone app went off on my phone went off stating Chris Wells (OSU running back) went down and would be out for the game did I immediately call my bookie and dropped $2245 on the 4.5 point spread before he knew and adjusted his line. Vegas followed suit, changed the line to 7.5 an hour later, eventually settling on 11.5 or 12 before gametime. I actually had an offer for $1250 to purchase my pick when the line got over 10. I would have come out $1250 richer without doing any work, regardless of the outcome of the game. I kept it and ended up making $2245 when USC hammered OSU 35-3. Again, I got a piece of information before someone else and used it to my advantage. Same thing a lot of day traders do.


But seriously, the live.com thing is cool. If you've been looking to make a big purchase of a TV or something, you can get a few hundred bucks back. Much better than the promotions Best Buy runs
