Apparently this is supposed to be really good for you. But uh, how much, y'know, counts?

i think zach will back me up on this, but shoot for 500 less than you normally consume if you're looking to lose weight and still eat like a real person
what is your average diet like these days though |

500 less per day will lead to about 1lb weight loss per week (assuming everything else remains the same).
Quality is important, though. Lots of fruits & vegetables, whole grains rather than processed, seafood and lean meat. -------------------- |

yeah, there are missing pieces to this puzzle.
And you have to develop a way to live with a diet that you can enjoy. I'm down to about 14% body fat but have only lost about 22 lbs, and it took me 10 months to get here, but I eat very very well and can live with what i eat. i fucking hate brussel sprouts. brussel sprouts ftl |

Actually, surprisingly, it's not to lose weight; I'm pretty damn thin and toned. I think my question has more to do with the substantial body of research that states that caloric restriction is a proven way to extend life. The concern I have is that finding actual numbers has been something of an anfractuous journey. I'm basically curious where the limit is at on caloric intake that "counts" as being restricted. Catch me?

i've read up on the fasting idea that lance is mentioning and I've heard good things. One plan recommended fasting for 36 hours every week

I third the fasting idea...pretty good to do every so often.
500, give or take a few, less calories a day will do the trick in most cases. -------------------- |

I would think that fasting that often would be a bad thing.

Anyone try Hoodia Gordonii supplements?
I met a girl at UT who said she used it a lot during her "depression phase" when she would want to eat a lot to not feel so down. Apparently she lost over 20 pounds in a semester? I don't really think she was BSing wither 'coz it did look like she had strech marks (on her arms and stuff). This page gives somewhat unbiased info about it : http://www.hoodia-advice.org/index.html -------------------- |

I've read that fasting once a week is quite beneficial. It is suppose to help increase the efficiency on how calories are absorbed and used by your body, and adapting to eating less food to sustain yourself.

hmm i usually "forget to eat" about once a week due to being occupied with stuff, and i have extremely high metabolism. maybe that's why...
