That is the problem with America, everyone lives in fear. Fear of the evil terrorist that are lurking everywhere. Fuck, you are more likely to get mugged and killed than getting anthrax in your mail. And on the other side is fear of ruining the environment, and hyping up that shit. I don't think its fear, i think its not wanting to have our heads buried in the sand. Just because you are more likely to be mugged doesn't mean we shouldn't watch out for a future hitlers and stalins of the world. We don't have to stop every bad thing in the world, but we should at least be watching the world situation -------------------- |

Oh come on Chuck, you really think the American public is being manipulated through fear on the scale of the Red Scare!? We're not bugging out or having drills to jump under the desk when the air-raid siren goes off. Sure there might have been a little bit of knee-jerk reaction but shit man, more Americans died in 911 than during the Cold War.

Vietnam, but if you don't count it. Korea, ect.
There are probably over 3000 unnamed spooks who were killed, as well as the bay of pigs, USS Scorpion. But soldiers are expected to die, and not some rich ass people in the twin towers so America goes crazy. Hate to say it, but it is what the Joker said in the last batman movie. -------------------- Southern Rock, beer and bears!

Well the point I was making, is people aren't as paranoid now with the 911 incident as they were with the nuclear scares of the cold war. I'll be the first one to say that airport security has gone way too far, but last I heard kids weren't having terrorist drills at school and people weren't building bunkers in their backyard.

One big difference... The threat of nuclear annihilation via states (still a very real threat that is often ignored today) Fear will always be a tool of the state. The basic need for an enemy mentality. Us Vs. Them, dark and light, order and chaos...etc. It does not matter who the enemy is... only that there is one. This post has been edited by The Fanatic: Sep 21 2008, 11:22 PM -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

I wasn't comparing and contrasting the threat levels of nuclear scares vs 911, just people's level of paranoia. You guys make it sound like the government is doing all this on purpose to control people. Well look at the kinda shit that happened back then, how about the camps of Japanese pulled out of their homes after Pearl Harbor? You think that kinda stuff would fly in this day & age?? hell no. Compare that to the post 911 and you just have some towelheads getting sneered at or (OMG) inconvenienced. Hell, you got airport dipshits picking out 80 year old grandmas because they don't want to hurt the towelhead's feelings!
