it's a desperate move for women voters. don't know if women will vote for mccain just cause he chose a woman for VP To my surprise, yes they are. Or atleast some of the ones I met tonight. -------------------- ![]() |

i think it was a pretty clever move.
there are far worse candidates out there in my opinion. but then again, there are far better candidates out there than any of our people trying to run for pres. right now... -------------------- |

To my surprise, yes they are. Or atleast some of the ones I met tonight. I think a lot of them were upset that obama didn't choose hillary as a running mate, not to mention hillary conditioned them to hate obama. I also think they were intially following hillary because they wanted a strong woman in office, not necessarily because of some undying love for the democrat party. So switching to mccain/palin probably wasn't that much of a stretch for a lot of them. |

it's interesting how 3/4 of the people running for Pres/VP are non-traditional candidates.
biden is the only one who's your typical white guy whos been in washington too long and is kinda fishy like all the rest. mccain is different because he's so bipartisan and doesnt care about party politics, then youve got obama who's black and palin who's a woman. any of those 3 should be a long shot to get to the white house, and that's exactly whats happened. If I was a Hillary supporter I would be a little insulted at McCain's VP pick as an overt attempt to bring in "their" votes. If anything, I think it galvanizes them to vote for Obama a little bit (the idea of "throw a woman at them -- ANY woman"). I thought if you were going to pick a woman VP, Kay Bailey was probably the best choice of all of them who had their name in the hat.
*shrug* but what do I know -- I get my Republican analysis from my parents who said they were disappointed with the pick. Are Repubs probably going to lose/pick up votes with ANY VP selection, probably not (I don't know how many people honestly vote for the VP rather than the Pres anyways -- 2%?). -------------------- ![]() |

The Republican party as a whole is praising this pick and calling it brilliant. Even the pundits like Sean Hannity & Rush. I think they'll pick up more votes than you think with the pick. Remember, the Hillary voters severely disliked Obama. They were voting for Hillary because they related to her, not because of their devotion to the democrats. While you're right, people don't vote based on the VP, I think in this case it's changed a lot of people's view of the Republican ticket. Did your parents say why they were disappointed with the pick? |

As I mentioned before, Palin was the best choice for McCain.
Romney would've ruined any chances he had, Kay Bailey would've been good but not many people outside of Texas know about her. Palin is perfect because she's a reformist. She was elected as governor of Alaska in order to rid the state senate of corruption. AND SHE DID IT. -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. They wake up the next day and they're on fire."

Did your parents say why they were disappointed with the pick? The whole "if John McCain dies would she be ready to step up" type thing -- you know the same thing they harp about with the inexperience of Obama. And let me explain the situation a bit better: they both love McCain and are definitely voting for him, but they do have reservations about his health, so for them this was a big "whaaaaaaaaaaaaat" moment. Granted this is my parents opinions and then don't have a techsans account (at least what I know) to defend their opinions and I am sure as hell not going to argue about this. Here is the thing though that I wouldn't mind discussing: do Repubs on here really think that this was the best vp pick in the bunch? I'm not asking if it was a good pick, but the best one. For example, Biden I thought was a good pick but not necessarily the best one for Obama to take. -------------------- ![]() |

For example, Biden I thought was a good pick but not necessarily the best one for Obama to take. After doing some research, yes I think she was the best pick. I already figured a woman would be the best pick, and after reading about Palin, she really has the qualities people want in an elected executive official. She is "down to earth", can easily relate with the average American, and has shown in track record that she has stood up even to members of her own party to bring down corruption. Every other candidate out there (including McCain himself) always says "I'll end corruption in Washington blah blah blah". This woman actually has a record of ending corruption in the government she ran in Alaska. Most of the big name Republican pundits are saying it was a brilliant pick and that she's energized the McCain ticket. I don't see that any of the other choices McCain had would have done that. |

The only reason I knew about her is Alaska sueing the feds over protection status of polar bears. If oil was cheap noone would know about her. -------------------- Southern Rock, beer and bears!
