Are you still driving the Z71 pickup truck? I have a 94 GMC Sierra and I put a water pump in mine about a year ago. Something like $60 for a rebuilt pump and it took less than 2 hours to replace it. All you have to do is take off the belt, front fan pulley, and 4 bolts on the water pump.

The brake line thing must be the rubber flexy section of the hose that is right by the wheel. The steel part of the brake lines typically don't have any problems, but the rubber will deteriorate over time. I've replaced those in my dads truck and its not a big deal either. Pop the front wheels off, replace the hoses, bleed the brakes, put everything back together and smile that you didn't get taken for 3 grand

The NSX I was looking at was a 2001 and cost around $38k. And when the fuck did I ever say I can't afford to fix my truck? I was just bitching because I took it in for what I thought was a small thing and it's gonna cost nearly $3k to fix and I'm gonna have to dip in to my savings. And FYI, I jotted the problems down when the asian guy I could hardly understand was telling me on the phone. I just got back and talked to another guy and got a list of what is wrong with it. The rear main seal that connects the transmission to the engine is cracked and eroded, and yes you have to remove the block to replace it. And it wasn't the brake line, it was the goddamned Hydra Tech brake booster. The other thing was the water pump. So yes the figure with parts and labor is probably accurate. The guy I talked to was either being vague or had no clue what he was talking about

And yes, Chuck, my dad and I built a car using a '72 Stingray body all throughout high school because I used to race SCCA events and quarter miles. It has a 440 crate engine, Whipple supercharger, Demon carb, Edelbrock intake manifold, and a host of other performance shit. And yes, much like most drag/quarter cars, it uses higher octane fuel than regular cars. Are you talking about the green jacked up Z71 I had, or the white 4x4? I'm talking about the white truck. I'm pretty sure I had the Z before I knew you

This is absolutely, positively, the last time I'm buying a domestic automobile. Not that I even like Toyotas or Hondas, but everyone I've talked to who owns one has but 125K+ miles on it and never had a major problem. I know trucks don't last as long as cars, but I drive well (ask anyone including Jessica and they'll say I drive like a grandpa). There is no excuse for an automobile to be getting 7-8 MPG when the manufacturer claims 16-17. American automakers wonder why they're losing business. It's because they're putting out inferior cars compared to foreign automakers

If this is your 2500HD, GM has never made any claims whatsoever as to the estimated gas miledge of that vehicle as anything over an 8599 GVWR they are not required to by law.

Also, if they are telling you they have to pull the entire motor out to change a water pump I suggest you find a new mechanic, that shouldn't be more than about a 4 hour job and does not require pulling the motor on any vehicle I have ever seen in my entire life, not even the side-mounted passenger cars with transaxles.

Also, if you truck IS getting that bad of miledge, and if I remember right that's a 6.0L right? .... You've probably got something else wrong ... time for a tuneup, new plugs, wires, and probably a new O2 sensor.

yeah a rear main seal would be an expensive ass repair to have a shop do. and excuuuuse me on the corvette. I don't hear people talk about their race car's "gas mileage" very often. though I highly doubt if you're running a whipplecharger (haha) you have high enough compression to warrant 108 octane.

In slightly less crappy car news, I had to get my front brakes worked on today. Took the car in for an oil change + tire rotation and apparently my pads were down to 2 mm. Whoopsie. They were three years old, though, if they were new when I bought the car.

I had a bad experience in my honda. Apparently they didn't leave the metal clip wear indicators, so my first inclination was the crunch of metal on rotors.
