Olympics question Options

I would have put this in sports, but it's not professional or college... that and my question is not entirely sports related.

I don't have any sort of t.v. stations coming through on my television right now. What network is broadcasting the Olympic games? Is it NBC again? I know not all of the games are on local channels, but I just want to know what local station is airing it.

Secondly, my t.v. isn't even getting local channels. What do I do to fix this? Do I need to buy an antenna? I really want to stray away from having to purchase anything. Can I stream the Olympics on the Internet?

You see, I love the summer Olympics. I like to watch the gymnastics, swimming, diving, and basketball competitions. I MUST find a way to. Please help. Any ideas y'all can give me would be greatly appreciated!

I believe it is NBC but not 100% positive. And yes to get local channels over the air you need an antenna. They're relatively cheap though.

I can afford basic cable. I just don't watch t.v. so there is no point in having it. If I was going to be in the state of Texas longer than another 3 weeks, I would get it. I find it a complete waste of money, though, to purchase something for one thing I want to watch. An antenna would be a cheap fix, but that's just something else we have to pack up. We have Netflix since we enjoy watching movies, but t.v. would be a complete waste for us.

Internet is included in my rent.

Thanks for be so wrapped up in my life, though, that you feel the need to comment. Are you trying to devalue the relationship I have with my husband by attacking our finances? We live extremely comfortably. I'm not working and haven't worked the entire time we have been married. Just because we decide that there are a few things in life that we don't need (like basic cable for instance) does not mean that we are not financially well off. Just because I want to use coupons at the grocery store does not mean we can't afford food. What it does mean is that there are other things we enjoy doing, and we chose to spend our money in that way. You waste your money on sports and alcohol. We waste our money on actually going out and having a life... eating out at nice restaurants, going to the movies, going to theme parks, etc. Finally, we know what it is to be responsible and live within our means. My husband drives 90+ miles a day for work so that really adds up on gas (about $80/week). We have a newborn baby that needs diapers, formula (which is expensive as hell. We spend about $40/week just on formula), etc. We are moving to the complete other side of the country, having to pay for gas to get there, lodging and food along the way, a deposit on an apartment, and god knows what else. We won't get reimbursed for the move for a few months so this is all stuff we have to pay for upfront now.

So excuse me that I don't want to pay for 3 weeks of the Olympics.

if you dont want to buy an antenna (i promise they are really cheap), see if you can find some unshielded wire (speaker wire, old house wire, etc) that you can jam into the hole on the coax connector where you'd plug in an antenna. then just tape it up to the wall or something. won't be a crystal clear image but should be better than nothing at all.

Well, maybe for the entertainment you get from it. That's a dumb statement to make generalized for everyone though. I think golf sucks but I'm not going to say it's a waste of money for the entertainment you get from it. Some people enjoy golf a lot, some don't. For me, $80/month to be able to watch all of my sports teams is enough to justify the cost by itself. Not to mention all the discovery/TLC/history channel stuff I watch all the friggin time.

It depends on the person. I mean, the shows we like (Friends, Rescue Me, House, Scrubs) we either own on dvd or can rent on Netflix

That doesn't make any sense. I watch my teams play because I to watch what happens during their games. How does me playing a sport replace that as entertainment?

try a paperclip. just jam it into the coax input in the back and set the tv to antenna. It's incredibly cheap and works to a certain degree.

Perfect. I was thinking metal coat hanger, but we don't have any of those. I knew that we could use some sort of metal or wire, but I just didn't know where to stick it in on the tv. Thanks, Impala and dauss.
