If you're remotely interested in networking or have had to endure any kind of Cisco certifcation, give this a read, it's actually pretty informative. Dude was on a team at Sun that was working to create a virtual 8th layer to the IP protocol that would allow for end-to-end connectivity through NAT and routers and stuff, which is a RIDICULOUSLY good idea and I don't know why it hasn't been looked into more.
