Lance will probably be calling you so he can get information to prove the moon landing was fake or something along those lines

So it's been almost two weeks and I still don't have a network login. Definitely a government operation.

Haha. My start here (also government) was actually rather simple compared to when I was working at Applied Materials. There it took a good month before I had access to all the programs I needed. It was so bad that one of my parting acts was to write up a "New Hire Checklist" with a pretty complete list of all the trainings, form requests, and other crap they had to do to get set up.
And then one of the team leads proceeded to disbelieve me that his new hires had to complete the Intellectual Property training before they were allowed to get their badges. Anywho, the *really* fun part (sarcasm) about government jobs is waiting for all the security clearance stuff to come through. Here, at least, they allow us to work on classified stuff as soon as our interim clearance comes in. Sandia waited until full clearance. Well I have to have secret clearance, but most of the stuff I'll be working on won't be super sensitive. I got my unix account a couple days ago so I've been able to do some stuff. From what people have said it usually takes about a week or two to get your windows account. The badging is the crazy part. They give you a temporary badge good for one month (no picture, have to show DL with it at the gate), then within 1-2 months from that you get a temporary picture badge, then another 1-2 months from that and you get your permanent badge (has a smart card chip in it).

Crazy! I had a temp badge for the first week or so, but that's because they expected me to get my interim clearance pretty quickly and didn't want to have to make two badges (uncleared & cleared). Normally I would've gotten an uncleared photo badge, then later gotten the cleared one.

Man, I never want a top secret clearance. I think you give away more freedoms with one of those.
