Ok not really, but it was a discussion that came up at lunch after a few of us had watched Deep Impact on TV over the weekend. We ultimately came to the conclusion that it might be pretty cool/interesting if real news of a coming asteroid was released. Think of what people would do differently, how money could become virtually worthless overnight. I suppose it would depend on the circumstances. I.e. is the news that one is going to impact two weeks from now and nothing can be done? Or is it that it's coming in three years and possibly something can be done? Or even something like five years and nothing can be done. Or how about the size of the asteroid... is it 2000 miles across and will completely obliterate the planet? Or maybe not quite as big and maybe a tenth of the population will survive it? What do you guys think would happen or what would you do?

If I had time/resources: dig a bunker deep in the mountains of New Mexico and stock it full of MREs and water, med supplies, weapons, etc. If only a couple weeks: I'd still retreat to the mountains with my 'bug-out' supplies and just shanty-town it until the fire stops falling from the sky. -------------------- |
