QUOTE (Jessica @ Jul 15 2008, 02:19 PM) *
How is that self-inflicted? When i think of a self-inflicted wound, I think of something like cutting yourself on purpose or some shit. Maybe my definition of the term is skewed.

Because I inflicted it....myself? Self inflicted doesn't always mean intentional. It could mean you were just a dumbass and being careless, which is what I was doing

I know law school costs more. I also didn't have loans, if you do recall. All my schooling and our living expenses came out of my meager earnings as a research assistant.

Oh, I wasn't saying anything about you in particular, just saying.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5888058.html Not really talking about age of students, but mostly that students are flocking to the convenience of online classes. Hell, when I was at Tech, the offered a hybrid course for Spanish 1507. I took it. It was super convenient.

http://www.wsiltv.com/p/news_details.php?n...01&type=top Here. This is a little more on target.

I found those articles here: http://people.uis.edu/rschr1/onlinelearning/blogger.html

Jessica, I'm not saying old people don't get degrees. I'm saying the rate at which people do get degrees declines a lot as they get older. would you disagree with that!?!?

Well, when I was working as a Game Master, I was making about 12 an hour.

I didnt think they paid that much for GM, thats cool. Always thought that would be something fun to do for extra cash.

No, I don't disagree with that. My thing is that we shouldn't tell our 18-19 years olds that they better go to college now or they never will. The Now or Never mindset seems to be dissipating.

I dunno about now or never, but yeah forcing college isn't good, especially if you're the parent paying for it. I'd say any parent should try to make sure it's an option, and IMHO encourage it.

You will be WAY better off in life if you get college done by the time you're 22.

Graduating when you're 26 like I did puts you way behind the curve.

If I'd have been graduating with a master's that probably would have been OK, but just getting your first BS like I did at 26 really didn't do me any favors.

Given I'm better off than not for getting the degree, but if I would have had my shit together and gotten the same degree when I was 22 I'd already probably have a 6 figure M-F 40-50 hour a week job as a manager for the company I'm with.
