OK, for real....now Apple can blow me.

A week ago I took in my iPhone cus the call volume was HORRIBLY low....so they replaced it. The new one had a problem with the screen being kinda less sensitive.

As you know, yesterday I installed the early 2.0 firmware....but after work I took in the phone to have them look at the screen....again, they replaced.

This morning I go to update with the OFFICIAL 2.0, and IT FUCKING BRICKED MY PHONE. Now I have no phone, and they're not doing ANY Genius Bar service today, and I only have half of the money needed to buy the 3G. GRRRRRRRRRRR

right

I'm sure girls like their big sunglasses, people loved their slap bracelets, etc.

I do not know a single person with an iPod who hasn't gotten frustrated with it in some way.
You may be right, but neither of these experiences really matter, because the operation of the item doesn't have to sell them, the fad sells them.

Nothing wrong with quality products at all, and not saying the iPod isn't a good player. But let me ask you and everyone else, what makes the iPod so popular? Why do people buy them? Specifically, why did you buy it (obviously you guys getting in a hissy fit own them)? Which other music players did you consider? What did you use to listen to your music before you bought your iPod? Obviously the answers to these questions will skew somewhat due to the discussion we're having, but I'm betting you can't explain this one:

According to wiki, Apple has sold over 140 million iPods. Do yall really think that if the iPod never existed, every one of those 140 million sales would have gone to other music players? I'll answer that question for ya, NO WAY IN HELL. This proves that the want for iPods is spurred on by popularity and not want for a music player in general followed by a choice of an iPod. And since you guys get so black and white over everything, no it doesn't mean I'm saying YOU in particular purchased your iPod just because it's popular.

I don't see anything wrong with them being a fad, but I do think they are. I don't see them being around forever. Soon enough music player functionality will mix completely into cell phones (which is already happening) or maybe even jewlery or something.

1. Really, not a single person? How many people do you know with an iPod? Or is this another 'Impala needs to prove his point'?

2. Apple made a product that was easy to use by everyone. That popularized the product. If the iPod didn't exist, alot of other MP3 players would have never come no the market. There would have had to be another Company to popularize the MP3 player. Due to the popularity of the iPod and the ease of use (c'mon, you still gonna pimp a Walkman CD Player with 12-15 songs/disc instead of 10,000 songs) the iPod became popular. The MiniDisc palyer never became as popular. THE CD MP3 player didn't last. Rio didn't make it as big as the iPod and they had the player 3 years before apple.

ipods might be a craze, but I don't think they're a fad in the usual sense of the word. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fad. Still, just semantics. If you have a different connotation for "fad" than most of us, so be it. *shrugs*

Anyways... I have an ipod (nano 2nd gen). I got it for free at an office Christmas party this past year. I had given thought to getting an mp3 player, but hadn't done much research. I might have gotten an ipod, might have gotten something else.

I have used my ipod quite frequently since I got it, mainly while working out. I haven't had any problems with it and I'm more or less happy with the interface. That having been said, I would've sworn up and down and probably trashed the thing if I'd tried using it with my desktop (PC) since I didn't use itunes on it and had organized my music in my own happy little fashion. But, since I'd gotten a Macbook Pro, migrated my music there, and had already gone through convulsions over it reorganizing my music, I was pretty mellow about the ipod thing.

Yes really (usually it has to do with them trying to transfer to another computer, or ripping their existing CDs, or copying their existing mp3s over). 7-8 people. No.

Ginormous sunglasses block the sun well. Crocs cover your feet and keep you from walking barefoot pretty well. Would you say those aren't fads? Again, I'm not saying it's not a good product. Just saying the manner in which it's swept the country seems awful lot like a fad to me. People "feel" that they want an iPod without knowing why. I'm not saying ALL people, but I think that's where the popularity comes from, the "everyone's doing it" factor.

I wouldn't really agree with the "small group of people" part of that definition. Webster's actually lists "craze" as a synonym for "fad".

I am currently sitting in a line at the AT&T store in Houston....the flagship store on 59. I am waiting to hopefully get an iPhone. They really should let people know how many there will be.

Nope, I also do not own an MP3 player and don't plan on purchasing one any time soon. The only advantage that I can see in having one is the added bonus of musical entertainment while working out... That would probably be the only time that I would use it.
