that's a helluva nice truck man. hell that allison is about a $5k option by itself. that is pretty much the exact truck i wanted to get, but i wanted to buy new and couldn't justify 30-35k (not to mention i have nothing to tow yet). i dont mind being upside down with a vehicle i really enjoy. i've put speakers and subs and wheels on my truck so far and plan to build a computer for it, so i figure it's just a vehicle i'll have for good anyhow.

I hope you have better luck with your half-ton than I had with mine, but I'm sure you will.

My dad and I had *IDENTICAL* 2000 1500's, except his was a GMC. His was built on a tuesday. He never had a lick of trouble with it in 85,000 miles. Mine was built on a friday. I had mine in for warranty work 23 different times while it was still under warranty. I should have sold it back as a lemon

But ...

I'm not expecting this to happen again, I pretty much just got a lemon, and so far this 2500HD's been everything I expected ... I'd probably be getter better miledge with it by a little bit if I wouldn't have put bigger tires on it, hahaha ...

But yeah it's a hell of a nice truck. It fits me perfectly for what I do .... Towing a 5,000-lb trailer at 10,000 feet is a lot different than towing that trailer at sea level, the bigger motor is definatley mandatory

Yeah, you can't really beat the durability of a BBC ... that's the big advantage to a high-output small block, the big blocks were just designed beefier albeit slightly less effecient perhaps ... but, I will say however, I think the current crop of Gen VII big blocks were leaps and bounds over the ones they were making 15,20 years ago even though the internals have hardley changed ...

I mean a Gen VII big block is basically the same ol' big block with a completley modern top end and engine control system from what I can tell ...

But yeah, I'm expecting 250,000 miles outta this truck easy ... heh

It does like to burn a little oil though, but I haven't ever seen a big block that hasn't .... hahaha

heheh big blocks just like to burn everything. the old 79 crew cab long wheelbase 454 i drove in high school liked burning oil, 6mpg, and tires 275k and counting. 454 + turbo 400 (w/shift kit of course) = tank

God I miss driving this thing.. we really need to freshen it up

if I could get my hands on an 87' 1-ton crew cab that was in decent shape I'd buy it .... I really liked that generation of chevy trucks.

$27,000 for a 2005 2500HD ECSB LT, 8.1L / Allison ..29,000 on the clock when I bought it. That price also included a "bumper-to-bumper" 4-year 80,000 mile extended warranty, I think the actual price for the truck was right around $25k. This was last November.

I didn't get a good deal on it even back then, I needed a truck and I needed it soon so I pretty well paid what the retail price on it was at the time

I could probably the the exact same truck for $20,000 now.

If only I'd have had some patience to put up with my POS truck i had awhile longer. ... but, I know for a fact I would have had to put another $3,000 worth of tranny in that thing this winter. Blah.
