Interesting quandary. Not hiring based on alcoholism vs being a fatass. Neither are good for business. For a retail job, I wouldn't want to hire someone who weighs 300 pounds. It's all about the customer perception, and a porker gives the perception you hire lazy degenerates. If they don't give a shit about how they look, what makes me think they'd give a shit about how they did their job? I'm sorry, but when I walk into a store to buy something, I don't care if the person weighs a buck ten or 300 pounds. I care about how they interact with me. It's not bad for business unless you are some waste of space snooty person who thinks they are better than everyone else. We all have our physical flaws. We all can do something about them. I could be one of those girls that wakes up 3 hours before I have to be somewhere just so I can get ready, do my hair, makeup, and nails. I don't though. I want people to like me for me, not for the way I look. If I spend time getting ready, it's because I want to look good for myself. Other's perception of me means nothing. I think you should back off Impala. Your argument makes no sense. I think people associate overweight people as having bad hygiene. That's just not the case. If a person has good hygiene and is qualified for the position, then they are 100% hired IMO.
Both alcoholism and weight are controllable. I know you'll give some lame ass excuse like it's hereditary...I don't care. Here's a novel idea: spend less time posting on here and spend more time actually trying to lose weight. Try running 3-4 miles every day and eating right and you might see some results. You are one pathetic fuck if you can't lose weight and get fit Oh, and I drink maybe once, twice every few weeks....so your argument is completely null and void, much like most of your other arguments on here. Good try though |

Remember when I didn't like Trudy's because all their waitresses looked like dirty hippies? I don't feel like supporting a place that hires people who look like that. Sorry, but if they don't care about who they hire, what else do they not care about? It isn't good business. But I do see what you're saying though Cathryn should apply at Trudy's. She's a dirty disgusting hippie bitch -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

Good point. Trust me. I can't stand Cathryn, but I believe she has cleaned up quite a bit. She posted some pics on here a while back where she had taken all her piercings out and had her hair done nicely. But appearance is a part of sales. She's a dirty disgusting hippie bitch Dressing like the waitresses at Trudy's is different because most of them looked like they smelled or they raided the dumpster for clothes. That really didn't bother me either, though. In fact, I thought it kinda made the place fun the way they were dressed. I don't need a waiter wearing a suite and tie to serve me food. Street clothes are fine. Basically what it seems like to me is that you are saying overweight people can't look professional. They can. Besides, what does it matter how they became overweight, whether it is from overeating and not exercising or if it's from a medical condition? The customer isn't going to know the difference. |

It's all about the customer perception, and a porker gives the perception you hire lazy degenerates. If they don't give a shit about how they look, what makes me think they'd give a shit about how they did their job? newsflash einstein: not every job is a retail job or involves interaction with customers. Both alcoholism and weight are controllable. I know you'll give some lame ass excuse like it's hereditary...I don't care. I present no such excuse nor do I feel the need to excuse myself to you. a novel idea: spend less time posting on here and spend more time actually trying to lose weight. Oh yeah, considering 90% of my time posting here is from work downtime. Lemme just stick a treadmill in my office here and throw some iron around. I'll work up a nice big stinky sweat here next to my coworkers, I'm sure they'd love that. Try running 3-4 miles every day and eating right and you might see some results. Oh my God you are a fucking genius! I never woulda fucking thought of diet and exercise!! Wow Will you should take that huge brain of yours back to college and get a degree in physics! (or anything for that matter). You are one pathetic fuck if you can't lose weight and get fit I can lose weight and get fit. Never said I can't. Never said I wasn't trying. So I guess I'm not a "pathetic fuck." I would think the words "pathetic fuck" would fit in more with someone trying to put down a guy for being fat on a message board. Oh, and I drink maybe once, twice every few weeks....so your argument is completely null and void, much like most of your other arguments on here. Good try though Oh that's right my bad... you're handing all the drinks to your 17 year old dates... |

Being over-weight is different than obese. I have no problem with someone just being over-weight, its when the huge porker is around me that i get uncomfortable.

You people are ridiculous. Yeah, I can understand being uncomfortable around someone who is morbidly obese, but someone with a slight weight issue shouldn't even cross your mind twice. The ONLY reason being around a morbidly obese person would be uncomfortable is because you don't want to stare but at the same time you don't want to ignore the person either. I think that's what I have a big problem with. I need to get over it. I want people to know that I care, but I also don't want them to think that their physical ailments are all I can concentrate on and that I feel sorry for them (even though at times I do). I go with my husband to Brooke Army Medical Center all the time. It's one of 2 major hospitals that severely injured soldiers from Iraq go to. They get a lot of severed limb patients and burn victims. I have nothing but utmost respect for the sacrifice these men made. I don't want to stare, but I have so much respect for them. Then again, I don't want to avoid eye contact because then they may think others are afraid to look at them. My husband handles it so well. He says "hi" to every one he walks by, but I am shy and don't like to talk to people I don't know. I just wish I knew how to handle it. If you all have issues with being around overweight people, then that is on you. That is something YOU have to deal with, not the person with the weight issue. Just like I have to deal with how to be around people who are injured. They don't always want people feeling sorry for them. Maybe they want normalcy.
I guess I see it this way: a company wouldn't not (double negative...WOOO) hire a war veteran with a missing leg, even if it were a retail store. That's just wrong. If people take issue with the fact that he is missing a limb, that is their problem. The same can be said of an overweight person. |

Its because Obese people are disgusting and being around something disgusting is uncomfortable. Call it what you want but someone who doesn't have self control and lets themselves become a beast is disgusting. I don't mind someone who is simply over-weight... hell thats most people (im sure im considered over-weight)... but i know i wouldn't hire someone who makes other's think to themselves "oh i hope im not staring".
Someone I know recently got served with a law suit (mistakenly, it was supposed to go to a completely different person/store) where a store owner was being sued because one manager told a fat chick she might have the floor sales job, but when taken to the higher-up he said "hell no, i want a skinny chick with a nice rack". The girl was trying to sue because of "sex discrimination" when it had nothing to do with her being a girl (he wanted to just hire a better looking girl), its because she was fat, and there is no protection for being fat in this country, thankfully. -------------------- |
