what is it? I'm curious

fiber to the home internet + TV service. I wanted to try it last year but had heard it was a little buggy and they only allowed 1 HD stream at a time, but my boss recently got it and said it works great and that you can do two HD streams now. not to mention I'm finally getting fed up with the cable service here... HD channels get hiccups and dropouts, the equipment & software is crap, channel offering is lagging behind other providers, etc.

What cable provider do you have? Is it Comcast there in Houston? Oh and does TimeWarner own Comcast?

Comcast and Time Warner shared markets. Time Warner ran Houston, Comcast ran DFW. Well through some business deal at the end of last year, they split up, and Comcast took over Houston and Time Warner took over DFW. I currently have Comcast, and am getting pretty bad service lately. I'll have whole HD channels drop out, stuttering/etc, and this is on pre-recorded stuff not just live sports. Also lost internet a few times recently, one time for about 45 mins the one damn day I decided to work from home. I figure since neither Comcast or AT&T Uverse has contracts, it's worth a shot to try it out.

Comcast also implemented some new architecture to their signal, cramming a forth HD channel into a stream that should only carry 3. As a result they've had to increase compression which degrades the picture quality quite a bit. They've just all around been pissing me off.

I've personally always been partial to Time Warner. I have had some really good experiences with them. In Savannah, though, they have Comcast which is why I ask. Hopefully Comcast in Savannah isn't shitty like it is there.

Well cable providers are pretty location based. Comcast here will probably be completely different than there. Most cable companies used to be extremely localized, and have only over the past 10 years or so been bought up by larger companies.

Yeah, I remember when Time Warner bought El Paso's cable company. We were a test market for their high speed internet and a bunch of their cable shit. It sucked for the first year and then they got way better.
