Are you deep in debt or something?

Yeah I've made some pretty bad financial decisions this last year ...

That combined with the fact that my favorite winter hobby is expensive just for operational costs of the machines, then I had to go and dump $5-6 grand in mods on my big sled this year and ultimatley I just spent entirley too much money on credit cards last winter that I almost have paid off...

But, I also have like $2500 a month in bills as well

I'd actually agree with impala on this one. there's alot of jobs that out of college start at high 20's low 30's right out of college. The area you live in is also something to consider

im not saying having to stick with a job that has something directly to do with your college degree.

i dont know i found it SUPER easy to find jobs with a bachelors in psychology that started paying at mid/high 30s within the field of psychology.

i just think people dont know how to search for jobs all that well or dont get after it hard enough. we live in a society that wants everything done for them right at that moment. job searching doesnt work with that kind of mentality. or they arent willing to relocate or do something that isnt just sitting behind a desk for a million bucks an hour

Considering how many people get those degrees vs. how many jobs there actually are is pretty nill, so the jobs that are out there are gonna go to the people with 4.0 GPA's at a minimum.

I can read off tons of people I know who have decent degrees, who were lucky to get 30. And no, it's not because they didn't search well enough. I even started much lower than I'd been brainwashed to think. And yes, college students are big time brainwashed into believing they'll make $x amount by their professors (most of whom probably haven't worked in the real world for decades).

I expected high 50's, low 60's to start with. And, coincidentally, that's what I started with at my first job. But I searched for months... several hours, nearly every day... online job postings as well as job fairs, headhunters, and hitting up contacts that my dad had... and it took me 9+ months to find a job, 3 of that when I was living here in Austin already w/ no relocation needed.

I probably could've found a job more quickly if I'd been looking nationwide, but I really wanted to be in Austin. That damn job search kicked my ass. Not even getting a phone call, much less an interview, is really depressing.

Right, it does typically take that amount of time to find a good job that you want. The problem is right out of school a lot of people have to find something right away.

my field starts out fairly low, total package around high 40s low 50s starting out, but you get jacked up pretty quick after your first vertical move.

Where I plan to make my money is in consulting once I get a handful more publications in press and hopefully get one of my books finished and picked up. Nothing like taking vacation days to fly somewhere else and getting paid bank to assess their program and give advice. I've done some of that on a small scale already, just looking forward to the bigger projects.

I immagine you were looking for a pretty specific job though right? I can't immagine you would have had that much trouble finding "an" engineering job ...

You know, I get managers saying they cannot get enough engineers anywhere. I think its a big HR stink, limiting the people in the field, so they have an excuse for a job.

She'll wake up one day and realize that her degree isn't a quick ticket to 40k a year. She'll end up with a shit job just like every other college psych grad. She thinks her job searching skills are the bomb diggity or something. It's laughable.

Impala, yes, none of the newspapers I listed have job listings for writers on their site. It's not just something you can apply to online or send your resume in to get. There's a process, but I know that 4 of my professors at Texas State (which is a lot considering I only took 10 classes there and some were with the same teacher) currently still write for the papers I listed and told us what to ask for starting out... mid 30's for a reporting job. Found the same figures through research on journalism job sites.

There are gov't jobs that pay well I could step into, but I don't really want to pursue a gov't job right now.

i got offered a job for 41k with MHMR I will work for them as I go to graduate school (intership is part of the degree) but sure you know way more about psychology jobs than someone who spent that last semester applying to them!

let me ask - do you work? are you considering accepting any positions at the moment? sounds like your life is pretty much dead in the water. not something i could have guessed 5 years ago...

I couldn't give a damn, but you're the one that insists your degree is high paying when it's listed as the lowest paying common major in college books and credible websites. I'm not acting like I have the best major ever like you are. You seem to think you are better than everyone else on here, and it's really fucking annoying. I'm just pointing out that FLAT OUT YOU ARE WRONG. If you want to keep on dreaming that you have the perfect life, your shit don't stink, you make the most money, your car is the best, your sheets are the best, your choice for president is the best, your treatment of the environment is the best.... then go right ahead, but don't expect people to argue against you when you just clearly have your head in the clouds all the damn time.
