i don't mind efficiency. but i don't need a show taken off the air which promotes efficiency in a huge way, then replaced by a show with some treehugger hippies telling me i should go buy a $25 aluminum water bottle (with a plastic liner) because the regular plastic bottle the water comes in could contaminate the water inside.

being green is fine, but some people a lot of people take it to the extreme and turn it into a hippie treehugger pissing contest.

this is so there's not a mass amount of plastic water bottles in landfills. buy a cheap water bottle and refill it over and over. i haven't heard about contaminating the water inside.

unless you're talking about nalgene's causing cancer. or something.

I'm just regurgitating what I saw on the 5 minutes of disgustingness that I watched that replaced the GOOD shows and GOOD channel that was Discovery Home.

A woman on there who ran an "eco friendly" shop was telling the hosts of the show, that you should buy the aluminum bottle she was selling because a standard bottle (dasani, aquafina, whatever) releases toxins into the water. She did not say anything of landfills or that you should recycle the plastic bottles.

Recycling/re-using old plastic bottles: Great, fine, good deal

Having some old hippie bitch spit out some complete bullshit to try to get me to buy her overpriced "eco friendly" goods: Not cool

There is some concern that the leftover bottles from Dasani, Aquafina, etc. can leech chemicals into the water when you reuse the bottles, but there isn't really any hard evidence. I use a rubbermaid bottle at work and reuse a Dasani bottle for my workouts. I figure as long as I don't let the bottle melt out in the car and change it out every so often, it's probably fine.

whats hard to understand about getting a metal water bottle/thermos over a plastic one? i have one for under 10 bucks. it can be due to being overpriced

its pretty ridiculous to hate something so much, like "going green" and "environmentalism" because some retard out there labeled it as being only for hippies. i think thats why most people seem to slow to grasp onto some of the more simple ideas behind the "green movement" - silly catchphrase

No I hate it because it's a bullshit political movement that mongers on peoples fears due to their misunderstanding of the world around them smile.gif

I already said I don't mind seeing new ways to be efficient, etc. But some bitch trying to sell me an overpriced water bottle by talking about crap she has no clue about, or heard second hand from some other hippie, is what pisses me off.

what was funny to me, was that the aluminum bottle she was trying to sell had a plastic liner laugh.gif (some "special" plastic of course, prob made from bunny rabbit ears or something).

metal bottles are typically heavier than plastic bottles and cost more to produce. I haven't heard about plastics used for dasani leaching chemicals into the water. The plastic used to make those bottles are #1 plastics, or PETE, which is/can be recycled (melted and re-extruded). I think what the person is talking about are the nalgene bottles, made of HDPE, which there have been "recent" studies showing release of toxic chemicals into water.

But on the whole, sometimes I don't get some of the going green shows. I watched Oprah's "green" show once and I thought a lot of it sounds like total bullshit. The average consumer is not going to be able to figure out what is actually "green" and what is not. It needs to be done through laws and government regulations.

was scrolling through hoping maybe to see one of my old shows still on, perhaps late at night, and found this gem of a new show on that damn treehugger channel they call "planet green"
