When you pull over and put the parking break on and shut the engine off, there's zero load. I've never heard of an engine block warping that's absurd. There's no way the heater adds 10-15% more cooling to the whole system. And I have talked to several mechanics, as I'm around them all the time. They've all said the same thing I have. Shut the damn thing off ASAP. The bottom line is the engine isn't going to cool while its running. Whatever was overheating it will continue to overheat it (short of someone driving like a dumbass and rapping it to red line constantly).

I'm done as well. I guess we can just agree to disagree. I just thought it was worth arguing considering lots of people on here might get the wrong idea and do some serious damage to their vehicles. I guess I shouldn't really care.

heat temperature isn't black and white dumbass. your oven has more settings than Broil, and Off
cool the engine slowly, it won't warp. engines are made from several different types of metals. each of those metals expands and shrinks at different points from each other.

tell you what, boil a ceramic cup. then throw it in a bowl of ice water, and watch how it cracks.

I think Chook is probably the smartest guy on here when it comes to mechanics and engineering and all that jazz. If he is arguing one way about something, even if I think otherwise, I usually will back off because he 99.9% of the time is right.

I don't expect nor care to have yours or anyone else's "validation", as I know in advance of any post I make that Chuck will get 1000% more respect than I do. I find it pretty fascinating actually. Especially how you guys make assumptions as to both Chuck and I's experience levels, when neither one of us felt the need to "state" them to each other. Either way, believe it or not it is possible for mechanics and/or engineers to disagree

I wasn't saying I don't respect your opinion or anything. I mean, when I post computer help topics in the nerdery (off topic, I still think that is a fucking gay forum name), I really just look for your responses. Sometimes you are a little mean about things or condescending, but when I reallly want computer help, yours is the post I look for. I'm just saying that Chook (I have to say usernames because yall have the same damn name) gives good explanations for things and it makes sense. I value his opinion on this topic, especially because it affirms something I already considered to be true. I read both yours and his, and I don't expect to get anything valuable from the others that posted on the topic (including myself) because none of us really can explain why. I just think that this time you are keeping your head in the clouds because you don't want to admit that there are times that it could be a better idea to turn the heater on than to turn the car off. The heater thing from what I understand is just a quick fix to get you to a place where you can see a mechanic. I wouldn't go run errands with it like that or take a road trip. If I'm out in the middle of nowhere by myself, though, and it's starting to get dark outside, I think I'll try the heater trick. It sounds sensible to me.

yeah I guess I can't disagree with that. honestly it's the fault of the coworkers I had in my first few years out of school. they were about as sarcastic and cynical as it gets and it kinda rubbed off on me

As far as the overheating stuff, I stand by every word I said (As I'm sure Chuck does too). Hard headed engineers are not too difficult to find. If you (and brandon) go back and look, you'll not find anywhere that I argued that running the heater would not provide any extra cooling at all. What was argued was what you're supposed to do in the event your engine is overheating. Chuck and I simply disagreed on that matter. He's done with the discussion as am I. I'm sure he's not pacing around losing sleep over it any more than I am.

Now, back to the great swindle also known as global warming.
