Okay, Rangers...
Rangers have the most hit points and can wear the heaviest armor (medium) of any of the Rogue archetypes. Their primary attack, as you may have guessed already, is ranged melee via either a bow or a crossbow. From what I understand and have read, crossbows generally attack harder but bows generally attack faster. At this point, it's hard to really say with any real certainty. I don't know about endgame, but it seems as if Rangers have pretty decent CC capabilities. They can stun/mesmerize a mob/player by attacking out of stealth, they have a ranged snare ability, can drop root traps and have a feat-trainable AOE fear ability at later levels. I've heard that their DPS drops significantly after 60, but my DPS right now at 16 is pretty good. Honestly, I feel a little OP currently. I have a wealth of CC options and I can pretty much kill any mob +/- two levels using one combo (Salvo). Neat thing about Rangers is that they can zoom in to first-person mode and fire their bow. When in FPS-mode, the Ranger's ranged attack range is increased by some value. I've found that it's generally too much of a PITA to do this for it to be worth it, but may change my mind once I've set-up a macro to zoom in/out and once I'm not able to effectively one-shot mobs. More later. |

I read somewhere that a fuckton of people who played Shadowbane have rolled up characters on AOC and if that's the case....I WILL NEVER TOUCH THAT GAME.
Shadowbane was fun until it turned free and then a bunch of assclowns camped the big player cities and killed you/stole your shit. And I only hear nightmares about FunCom (the administrators of the game). They have apparently fired their support base and your representatives will now be Indian people or Chinese people. Not that it's a huge issue but with such a new game you don't just up and fire your experienced support help when you know there will be bugs/issues/lag/disconnects/malfunctions/etc. That's where Blizzard has this game beat. The fact that Blizzard can provide support to 15million+ subscribers on a daily basis will be a huge make or break for AOC. -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. They wake up the next day and they're on fire."

I don't know much about their customer service, but I've been less-than-impressed with the way FunCom has handled stuff so far... they dropped a couple of stealth nerfs in the patch yesterday. Don't see why they don't just sack up and spill it in the patch notes, but whatever.
A ton of old-school PvP guilds from way back - DAoC, SB, SWG, etc. - have rolled on the Deathwhisper server. As far as I know, it's the only completely full server. |

um in a PVP game that is going to happen, deal with it. i won't have to deal with it because i won't play the game and yes FunCom "downsized" -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. aaron you still playin this? Yep. Got my Ranger up to level 32 on Monday. I'm still enjoying the game quite a bit, but decided I'd try another class. Leveling, in my limited experience, is pretty ez-mode, so I'm not too concerned about "wasting time" with alts. (I would have rolled a new toon earlier, but yesterday was the first time since last Friday that they've allowed new characters to be created on my server.) I decided to start a Dark Templar for a couple of reasons. First off, from what I've read, the only Rogue class that's any good from 1-80 is Barbarian, and for whatever reason that class doesn't appeal to me too much. I'm not a big magic guy, so that rules out any of the Priest of Mage classes. I hadn't read a whole lot about any of the Soldier classes, but the Dark Templar's tanking ability, combos and spells seemed pretty cool so I opted to go for that. Long story shorter, I got him to level 15 in about five hours of play last night. It's amazing how easy Tortage (levels 1-20ish) is after you've done it once before. Dark Templars are similar to Shadow Knights in EverQuest in that they have lifetaps and things like that. More later. You should give it a shot dude, I actually think I have a 'give a friend 7-days' or something like that in my retail box. |
