driving efficiently is far from the only reason gas prices are not hurting me. my costs for just about everything are lower than theyve ever been (including food, electricity, water, and shopping!)

I walk just about everywhere except work and food is still expensive. And I've been buying groceries from the farmer's market (hispanic one) where things are cheaper. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

You also have to take into account wind resistance on a vehicle increases exponentially with speed, which causes more load to be put on the engine ... Faster = more wind resistance/drag = more fuel expended. And no, I don't go slow in the left lane. Trust me...it's been a challenge for me, because I normally am that person who is flying past the others. But I have noticed a little bit of difference in how far my gas has stretched since making that change, along with not gunning it from lights, and not tailgating. And now with me living ni Montrose, I am trying to walk to more local places. My hookup will just have to deal with me being a bit sweaty LOL I am JOKING |

Not entirley. It's based on engine load ... with fuel injected vehicles, they can actually operate at a given RPM on varying amounts of fuel ... it's kind of a new thing with modern engine control. For instance, I can tow my snowmobile trailer at 65 mph behind my pickup in the same gear it would normally be cruising in at 65 at the same RPM .... I'd get about 16 mpg unloaded, but with the trailer I'd get about 9 ... My old truck I used to get 21 mpg at 65 mph, at 75 I'd get 17 .. You also have to take into account wind resistance on a vehicle increases exponentially with speed, which causes more load to be put on the engine ... exactly. Variable fuel to match your load. Wind drag is exponential, that is why it takes so much more power for super cars to go from 160 to 165, and why your top end is slower. -------------------- Southern Rock, beer and bears!

How do high gas prices make you pay any less than someone else for food, electricity, water, or "shopping" (whatever that means)? |

high gas prices are what a lot of people blame for the increase costs of food nowadays. shopping = driving around, i dont worry about gas prices....
electricity = dependent in a lot of ways on fuel - again i dont worry because my electric bills at the highest are 20 bucks im in Houston -------------------- Little monkeys making money

food is expensive because of transportation costs rising which is directly affected by the increase in fuel prices
food production cost has also increased because of the fuel costs needed to either manufacture or harvest those foods -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. They wake up the next day and they're on fire."

Is she sharing her house? If she is sharing is she ever going to want to get married and have her own home? Same thing with food or any other cost. By simply claiming that they're cheaper for her avoids the idea that in general, prices are higher. Must be living in a group situation. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Yeah Happy Meals are almost $4. I remember when they were $2.50. It's sad when it costs over $10 for two small people to eat at McDonalds.
