I am still with my amd 1800+, anyone know a good computer for everything, minus the OS for $1200?

that case should be fine. just make sure you test fit the heat sink if you're going to use it. if you end up using the stock heatsink/fan do not put the thermal paste on it. it wont jive with the stuff that's already on there. also make sure you peel the paper off the pre-applied compound (yes, dumb to say but people do it, and end up with charred paper mess all over the cpu/heatsink).
ok. cool. thanks for the tips. I haven't done this in 4ish years and the heatsink fan was the part I'm worried about doing.

already built? You can build one yourself for that price and have some pretty good specs.

just the parts to get. I haven't paid attention to the market for a while and am pretty clueless about advantages/disadvantages.

Might be worth looking into. Has incredible benchmarks on Tom's Hardware

I just don't understand why it would allocate to four processors...or rather what the point is. To me, it would seem better to just stick with a duo core

i'd grab an intel core 2 quad if i was building a new system right now. a fast hard drive is very nice too. i've got one of the western digital raptor 150GB drives and it's friggin smokin. after those two items, just get whatever fills in the blanks. RAM is mega cheap right now so load up. as far as motherboards go i have used the intel reference boards for years and they've been very solid.

just my $0.02

Here's what I'd build right now if I was to build a complete new PC:

A little over the $1,200 you mentioned chuck, but a pretty effin sweet system.

If you have any questions on it let me know, that's pretty much the exact system I'm running right now minus the processor.

YAY! Our computer stuff came today. Well, minus a case fan haha. A $4 case fan is on backorder. Thank God that was the only thing. I already have 2 or 3 others so it's fine for now.

Thanks!

I accidentally broke one of our $17 dvd r drives though sad.gif

I was unplugging it to adjust something and the damn pins or something came out and got stuck in the SATA cable. I blame the cheap device. I'm not that strong, and I'm careful. sad.gif
