Texas Tech won't raise tuition Options

We don't get alumni support because of the name change and alumni were getting pissed off by us not moving to D1-FBS, there is no more A or AA. I had to sit in on those freakin committee hearings for it. I heard the Alumni Associations concerns. We are getting more money now from alumni than ever before since the move. One alumni from New Braunfels just donated I don't remember how many millions of dollars just to the athletic program.

yeah I'm sure there was just massive alumni support with untold dollars pouring in when it was called southwest texas.

its honestly a catch-22. alumni support comes from having an athletics program worth watching. athletic programs worth watching don't come along without alumni support.

We had more money coming in before.

We have a good basketball team and basketball is actually what brings in more money than any other athletic program in any school. We have a great baseball team but their facilities aren't what they ought to be. We have members of our track team going to the Olympics. This stuff just doesn't make the news because of our football division status, which sucks. We had a poor program this year because we were in a transition with a new coach, Coach Bailiff is now at Rice where he took the rest of our coaching staff. Coach Wright had quite a few players leave. Chase Wasson, former QB turned WR after Bradley George came, left for Oklahoma. Bradley played for the Reds' organization before coming to Texas State to play football. Justin Boren, who transferred from SMU, got injured in our game against Kentucky 2 seasons ago, but he was an amazing RG. We had a kid come in that just wasn't up to par as much as Justin is. We had talent, but it all fizzled after Bailiff left.

You've got some pretty good crack there don't ya... basketball brings in nowhere near as much as football. Even in division II.

The data is for 2003, but goes back to 1989 and if you look at the trend it shows football taking a larger share every year.

And I hate to be dogging a Div II team, but I dunno that I'd classify a 9th place finish in the Southland conference "great". Your basketball team has had one season over .500 in the past five years. I highly doubt whatever money came into the school via alumni was because of this amazing basketball performance.

Texas State is not Division II. We're D I - FCS.

Oh, and the only distinction is in football. All other sports we play Big 12 schools at the same level.

If this topic is irrelevant why did you bring it up in the first place? It seems to me ( and i may be wrong) that you do this quite often in threads that you post in. You seem to bring TSU/SA/Politics into everything. Just an observation.

Is this directed toward me? Because I didn't use the abbreviation "tsu." I was placed on the "Pride and Traditions" committee so I even get to pronounce all of the buildings on campus correctly haha.

Oh and for another school's reference point, UTSA is raising their tuition and fees like a mother. I think I read in the paper their athletic fees are going up 100%, they are working hard to get a football program, and their tuition is going up 57% to pay for some engineering program. This took a bunch of students by storm because UTSA is largely a commuter campus for people around San Antonio. They do have a decent amount of people from outside of San Antonio, but not really.

yeah the way the dorms were run was really shitty. And the old guy at the reservations place made a big deal about how it was tech sacrificing itself to provide us with dorm rooms.

Honestly, yeah, I call it Texas State, but who gives a damn. TSU are the letters of the school if you want to abbreviate it. If you are tying on a message board, isn't it faster to just type TSU instead of Texas State? I don't really think it's that big of a deal.
