LUBBOCK — Texas Tech University's Board of Regents today bucked a statewide trend and voted to freeze tuition for next school year.

Student and parking fees, as well as room and board charges, also will not go up for 2008-2009.

pretty good press for tech coming from the AP

they don't need to raise tuition because they raised it so high while you and i were there, the rest of the state is probably just now catching up to the money-grubbing bastards

ut, a&m, and even angelo state outraised us percentage-wise ever since deregulation in 2001.

every year there is a bill to reregulate tuition and it gets voted down with little substantial debate

Tuition Rereg will be another hot topic again. State Representative Patrick Rose has been talking about it for the last year, he got the tax free weekend for textbooks.
Call your local State Rep and encourage them to make this an issue.

I still don't understand why they thought deregulation would be beneficial for the students. I remember hearing some douchebag bureaucrat supporting it way-back-when by saying it would make it "cheaper for the student."

Because deregulation sure made cable/phone/airline services cheaper...

I understand competition is cool and typically works for most economic matters, but WTF were they thinking for tuition!?

They claimed that tuition competition would turn into "tuition wars" with public schools, when that actually hasn't happened period.

Texas State is raising tuition and fees again. But this is due to Texas State Students voting to push our football team to to D1-FBS, tons of renovations around campus, bringing in some amazing programs and new degree plans.

Texas State has a problem with getting alumni support as well. It is starting to come in though. The biggest problem was our switch to the name 'Texas State University'.

getting a division 1 team for texas state is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. Really.... people just dont come to our school for the athletics. Plus, UT is like right there, and we wouldnt even be in the Big 12. Everyone supports UT around here

sweet. Maybe in the next few years UT will have a realistic shot at dropping 100 points on an opponent

well... lol I will be the biggest Texas State Supporter in the world. We held our own against A&M in 2005 and against Baylor this last year. we will be playing SMU this season. I think it's a brilliant idea. Not only that, but brings more money our way.

And we would be in Conference USA possibly. There's nothing wrong with that.

Wait, your justification for TSU being in D-1 is they held their own against Baylor? Baylor sucks. If Texas State joins D-1 they'll win 0-2 games a year for the next 10 years

for us to have a really bad season this year and we held our own against Baylor is good. They have the recruiting mechanisms that Texas State doesn't have. and it's not TSU. Texas Southern gets pissy when people say that.

my issue is that the argue that this will bring a lot of money to the school since we have no alumni support. i think alumni would rather support a strong d1-aa team than a losing d1-a team

for instance fiu & fau vs. app state.
