if they have the ability to go back and forth across the border, whether or not they're living here or not, and that is taken away from them then it's wrong. make sure you don't build a driveway in front of your garage, you're probably mowing down some ant city's tunnels. and yes, taking away an animal's natural boundaries, as determined by the animal, can make them go extinct. don't you watch animal planet. It's not taking away their natural boundaries. Their natural living area is IN MEXICO. One dude seeing one for the first time in 100 years doesn't constitute that animal's "boundaries". |

Quick point: the border fence is just like putting a band-aide on a big gash. Quick "fix" for a much larger problem/issue. *saves this argument for another thread* I'll bite on that one if you start a thread about it. Your little jab & run tactics don't scare me! |

Who cares? You have a serious problem with looking at things realistically. Discounting the fact that you never read the goddamned article to begin with, it states that there are no more than 120 jaguars left in that area. Even if building the fence wiped out the population, it wouldn't really make a difference. The "extinction" of 120 animals in an isolated part of the world wouldn't affect anything. I highly doubt jaguars have an predators, and the prey they eat wouldn't really be affected population wise with such a small number of jaguars left. Their "extinction" would make minimal to no difference on their existing habitat Nothing bothers me more than protecting the extreme minority at the expense of the majority. I really hope PETA doesn't catch wind of this because god knows they'll throw a hellacious hissy fit actually the extinction of a top predator, even with low numbers of 120 in an "isolated" area (and its not much of an isolated area if the animals are now increasing their range or moving completely) DOES create large effects to the ecosystem it lives in and ecosystems around it as a whole. and impala dont get all snarky about someone not reading your article when you are the king of doing that! ants around these parts arent endangered so go ahead and plow your driveway through them! chances are they are an invasive species of ant to begin with. and no these jaguars wouldnt not be counted as invasive species although they are increasing their range/changing it (maybe because their climate/range where they were is no longer fit and they need better land to survive) because their numbers are so low. one aspect of an invasive species is that it soon begins to take over due to the ability to drastically effect the ecosystem balance in a short amount of time, typically because they reproduce so quickly - something large mammals cant do could we mow down everything in the pacific NW and alaska? eh bald eagles - who cares! Cat you flat out admitted to not reading the article. That's why I suggested you do so. I was saying it literally, whereas you guys who bitch at me about it use your 3rd grade responses like "well durrrrrrrrr hurrrrrr hur hur you must not understand english" or "well you obviously didn't read the article." So don't even mention that.
And like I already said, ONE guy seeing ONE jaguar does not mean that putting a fence up will kill off the species. Come on even you should be able to admit it's a stretch. |

no its not going to immediately kill off the entire species BUT it could potentially thats why they dont want to build the fence until they investigate whats going on with the animal.
oh come on impala you've flat out admitted to not reading articles/explanations yet still had your more than 2 cents to say about it. so you dont give me that! -------------------- Little monkeys making money

i havent read the article at all but if the cats range goes beyond where the fence would cut them off at then it could very well kill them off. or if it prevents movements of things they feed on. its a little thing called habitat destruction, which is a big factor in the high rate of extinction of various plant and animal species *yawn* -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

you guys need to friggin read the article. this is not "build a fence = jaguar extinction". it's "a dude saw a jaguar in texas for the first time in hundreds of years and building a fence will make it so they don't come over here". they're all still in mexico. the fence just wouldn't let them easily get over here. Dude, they are in Arizona and not Texas. Illegals don't use the mountain, so the point of the fence is just for politicians to say they care. And its funny, he calls himself a conservationist but was hunting mountain lions. -------------------- Southern Rock, beer and bears!

I'm not arguing about the fence. I'm saying it's f'n stupid for someone to cite these jaguars as a reason to not build one. Now saying illegals don't use the mountain or something to that effect actually makes some sense.
