I'm totally against gun ownership and am all for the US government stripping the right to bear arms away from everyone UNLESS they are active military (only if they're MP's or in a battlefield), police officers, special security, CPS workers - people that potentially need a lethal weapon as part of their occupation. in a country with a serious crime problem you can't have a police force that dont have the ability to use a gun type lethal force. just imagine it - if cops in America didn't carry guns there'd be a dozen cop killings a day. these are the people that protect us and put their lives on the line (even if some dont deserve the recognition) edit: but in my future world where the average person doesnt have easy access to a gun, i would be for English style police forces - average cops dont have guns Of course! If you just make it against the law it won't exist! |

oh itll still exist, i never said it wouldnt. but there would be a big decrease in ownership. add onto that severe punishments for having weapons, 1st time offenses, make it hard if not impossible to buy guns and import them - then the typical gang banger wont have a glock and an AK

you're absolutely delusional. come back to the real world bud. your armchair QBing of this situation is pathetic. you'd be shot dead while fumbling with your nerf gun. I love how sad it is when people decide something should be done a certain way, but then also release the responsibility of it by saying "well it's not up to me, but I think it should be done this way". How about you become a cop, and go pull over some drug dealers and we'll see just how great your bean bags & tranqs match up agains what the criminals are carrying. yeah, pretty sure that's what we accomplished in the other thread. and if i'm going to be shot dead fumbling for my beanbag gun, why couldn't i just as easily be shot dead while fumbling for my real gun.... -------------------- Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty.

im not a police officer or a politician but its worked for virtually the rest of the industrialized world. Been to the UK? It is not working there. Gangs of teens beating people to death who are completely defenseless. Everyone, and I mean everyone I talked to really hated the anti gun laws, because they said all that did was allow criminals an easier time of robbing people. Everyone, and again, without exaggeration, everyone I spoke to, wished the British government were sensible like the US. Then I had to explain to them that gun ownership wasn't legal in all states. If you do not like the gun laws, you are welcome to go live in California or Massachusetts. There is no need to try to change Texas for the worse. Because evidence, real world trial of the nonsense you preach (universal healthcare, gun ban, general socialism), is not working in Europe. So why would we want that here? Answer: we don't. But like I said, you are not without options, and I welcome you to taking advantage of all the US has to offer. You have the freedom to live in a place that believes the same as you ( or closer at least), so perhaps you would be happier there. -------------------- ![]() |

yes i have been to england. i did not get beaten up by a gang of wayward teens nor do i know anyone who had. their homicide rate is waaaaaay lower than the US even after taking into consideration population differences. guess those beating to death cases arent all that prevalent. but my beliefs in stricter gun laws and taking away citizens guns all together arent just about murder rates. probably the smallest reason for my beliefs as people can interpret the statistics differently
the health system is great in europe as i have a significant number of family members who live there full time who have experiences with it as well as my parents visiting the Uk and europe for a month or two and all the sudden youre an expert?! hope to god you didnt pick up a fake accent as well -------------------- Little monkeys making money

yeah, pretty sure that's what we accomplished in the other thread. and if i'm going to be shot dead fumbling for my beanbag gun, why couldn't i just as easily be shot dead while fumbling for my real gun.... I could care less about fumbling. You're post earlier said that since "killing the criminals doesn't work" we should stop doing it. I never suggested that we kill all criminals or any at all. I was talking about what happens in real situations in real life. A criminal, with a gun (or knife), decides he is going to rob someone (which is against the law, so apparently those aren't working either). What is a law enforcement officer supposed to do? Yeah, bean bags and mace are great ideas for certain cases, but in others you need knock-down, take-out, force. If the criminal that I pointed out above was threatening another person's life (holding a woman as a hostage) would you want to continuously try to talk the person out or attempt to talk the person out and then start making a move to save the woman's life? There are plenty of cases of hostage takers who were given multiple opportunities to surrender, they refuse, and the police force thinks they still can get them out, then those hostage takers kill someone. SWAT has a pretty good ability to use non-lethal force but they also get the benefit of usually being able to plan their moves well in advance, whereas a police officer does not have time to sit around make life-ending/saving decisions, they just have to make them. And you know what, I'd much rather have an officer making that decision for me rather than a criminal. There are also plenty of documented cases of murder and assault in foreign countries that could have been stopped had the hands of police and citizens not been tied. The one that stands out is the video of the woman being stabbed repeatedly by her husband and people try to do all they can before enough of them gang up and are able to get the guy off of her, by then it was too late. What about heavily armed bank robbers? Remember the video of the Los Angeles robbers walking down the street with AK-47s (which are not legal to have) shooting up a storm. What would you do in that situation. Those tards were wearing bullet-proof vests, I'm not sure your bean bags would have an affect. You state that we should not do things that are wrong, but what are the criminals doing? THE WRONG THING. Why not stop taking up for them as though they deserve better than the people they hurt. Since when did being a victim of crime start being the passe thing? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

the health system is great in europe as i have a significant number of family members who live there full time who have experiences with it as well as my parents The health system works but I wouldn't call it great. Even in Norway, where the health system is subsidized by oil revenues, are people starting to get a little worried since the energy issues and the reports that show Norwegian wells are emptying faster than originally thought. I wonder what they'll do when they don't have the money to run a national system... Start charging people? And as an example of crime in Britain, both my dad and I witnessed violence when we were there (on separate occasions). My dad saw a bunch of teenagers rob a small store, beat the manager to a pulp and run off. The police seemed to have them cornered but they got away. I saw two mid-20s aged punk kids jump a guy in Hackney. They kept screaming at him to give them his phone and were kicking him to comply. He ended up giving his phone and these two ran off in broad daylight with tons of people around. Britain and more specifically London have a large "gang" following, they seem to really like the idea of American gangs but can't seem to pull it off the same. Then again, you'd never see a broad daylight beating of someone in most areas of Houston. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Guess what... anywhere with a population over 10,000 is going to have crime and the such. Europe isn't any better than the U.S.

the dart would react too slow, mabye a tazer or rubber bullet? One of my bosses used to be a Sherrif in LA and quit becuase of a shootout. Some cops suck, some are cool. If some person broke into my house, i would shoot his ass without asking a question. I would try to save his life and call 911, but his life is second to my family.

maybe you saw that because you were in Hackney Maybe but you're implying that crime is ok when it's in a crime ridden area. My dad was on Piccadilly just west of Piccadilly Circus where he saw that, and that isn't the most crime ridden area. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

all i'm saying is it seems a little childish. you're gonna kill me? not if i kill you first. if i can't play in the sandbox, then no one can. So you have thoughts on self-preservation. If you had a gun and your life was threatened, would you attempt to save yourself? What are your thoughts on abortion? Since life is sacred, I would assume you are pro-life? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |
