here's a snippet (towards the bottom):

QUOTE
Here's some comfort for him, for all Democrats. In Lubbock, Texas – Lubbock Comma Texas, the heart of Texas conservatism – they dislike President Bush. He has lost them. I was there and saw it. Confusion has been followed by frustration has turned into resentment, and this is huge. Everyone knows the president's poll numbers are at historic lows, but if he is over in Lubbock, there is no place in this country that likes him. I made a speech and moved around and I was tough on him and no one – not one – defended or disagreed. I did the same in North Carolina recently, and again no defenders. I did the same in Fresno, Calif., and no defenders, not one.

I never thought about Lubbock being the heart of Texas conservatism, but I guess it makes sense.

of course lubbock is the heart of texas conservatism. you had people smashing highway belles of the "wind man" because they thought the pagan influence was corrupting. and it worked! they removed them all. this place is ass backwards

theres no other "big city" in Texas that is like that

abilene is way more conservative than lubbock, and still a good-sized city.

i'd even say the most conservative cities are the ones up in the pandhandle, followed by midland/odessa.

i was under the impression midland odessa was like half the population of lubbock. they dont even have a decent hospital

amarillo is way not conservative and witchita (spelling i dont know) falls may not be too conservative either. way too many pissed off military personnel id think. and besides those are there any other "big" cities in this area?

but yeah id agree abiliene (spelling) is pretty nutjob conservative but that much more than lubbock?

So some wall street journal reporter comes to lubbock and suddenly has a feel for the city as a whole's political views. what an arrogant bitch.

there are 200,000+ people in lubbock. the couple hundred tech students you interacted with do not indicate the city of lubbock's opinion.

Yeah, you know "most" people in lubbock's opinion don't you? Just like this stupid bitch goes and makes a bush hate speech, and nobody sparks an argument so she assumes the whole city hates bush. How many people who like president bush that live in lubbock would go watch some stupid bitch from the WSJ make a speech?

wikipedia says the combined population of midland/odessa is 251,000. lubbock is like 200,000.

anyway, tech makes lubbock less conservative though. anytime you have a big state university in a city, i think it does that.
on the other hand, abilene just has 3 private christian universities, so it has the total opposite effect..it just makes it more conservative.

i wouldnt call either populatoin nutjob weirdos though. unless you'd call really liberal cities the same thing. just opposite sides of the spectrum.
