Of course he is going to say that.

The guy's been a family friend for 25 years, he's not promoting his company to me. He even suggested Shell.

About Valero, it is a downstream company. They only refine oil, they don't drill it, so if anything, they should be hurting right now and do great when oil prices drop. They have to buy the stuff at cost, which means they are paying $119/barrel, refining it, and selling it for just enough to try and stay in the green. I would assume they are not succeeding at staying in the green.

I can't stand going to their gas stations where they limit the amount you can get in $$ amounts.

I had a Valero cut me off at $50 the other day. That's barely 3/4 tank for me. I will never go to one again, short of running on fumes and that being the only one around.

Oh and back to the original topic, we were talking about what the Iran prez said about oil prices, and one guy made a pretty funny comment: "Yeah he's saying that because he needs more money to make his nuclear weapons."

That is true, but they are still making profit. So long as their refineries are going near max capacity. The companies who do the whole stream won't cut their profit in any part of the line, so Valero makes their cut with what they do. Heating Oil is actually the big money maker.

More Iranian president quotes... I wonder if this means war is imminent?

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5876833.html
QUOTE
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said today that he sees no possibility of a war between his country and the United States or Israel.

"I assure you that there won't be any war in the future," Ahmadinejad told a news conference during a visit to Malaysia for a summit of developing Muslim nations.

Ahmadinejad's comments came less than 24 hours after Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced that its forces were carrying out a military drill involving "missile squads" and warned that the country would retaliate against any military strike by targeting Tel Aviv and U.S. warships in the Persian Gulf.

Iranian officials have been issuing a mix of conciliatory and bellicose statements in recent weeks about the possibility of a clash with the U.S. and Israel.

Ahmadinejad also predicted Israel would collapse without Iranian action.

I bet there's some big terrorist strike in store for Israel sometime soon then. Israel will tie it to Iran and retaliate, then Iran can go nuts

And now after their president says this, they fire off some missile tests today...
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5878646.html
QUOTE
Oil prices rebounded from consecutive days of steep declines after Iran test-fired nine missiles today, including Shahab-3 missiles with the capability of reaching Isreal.

Expectations that a U.S. crude supply report later in the day will show stocks at continued lows also supported prices.

Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards fired the missiles during war games that high-ranking military officials say are a response to U.S. and Israeli threats.

Gen. Hossein Salami, a top commander, was quoted on state television saying the exercise "is to demonstrate our resolve and might against enemies who in recent weeks have threatened Iran with harsh language."

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?
