Proceed as follows:

1. Login to Facebook
2. See pop-up window
3. Proceed to vomit

This is retarded. If I want to talk to someone from high school, college, etc. I'll login to AIM, I still have the same screen name.

I don't see it as the same thing. Gmail is e-mail, Facebook is social networking. Gmail saves chats as e-mails, who knows what Facebook is doing with them. Gchat is a standalone messaging client based on an open source protocol, again, who knows what Facebook is based on.

I am usually for new, cool things but this seems retarded. If people want instant messaging, get an instant messenger.

It's just a little chat app man, I don't understand why you think it's so retarded. As much as people sit around on facebook all day, it doesn't seem like that much of a stretch.

I don't believe it's an actual application is it? It's just a quick chat app inside the page right? Just like the gmail one.

correct its just like the gmail one in the way that if you have an account then you have the chat capability. Also like Gmail you make yourself unavailable. After the initial popup it is very unobtrusive as it just sits on the bottom right of the screen like a taskbar item.

I probably wont ever use it but I have no problem with it being there. Stephen I normally think you are pretty rational, but i on this i think you are taking it too far.

Google Talk is an actual application, it just has a web interface as well.

http://www.google.com/talk/

I'm not really getting worked up about it, I just think it is dumb. One more thing we don't need.
