there have been CEOs in the past who have donated their own personal millions for good causes. i believe they would also be able to set up a budgeting/funding system to offset the increased prices like some pharmaceutical companies have done. hell they could create/fund their own grant/charity organization with company profits! theres a near infinite amount of different things they could do!

they were forced to defend their practices to congress... obviously im not the only person that had a problem

QUOTE (impala454 @ Apr 14 2008, 04:55 PM) *
You guys need to pull your heads out and realize that american oil companies do not set oil prices. remember back about 15 years ago when gas was like $0.80/gallon? that was back when we produced enough oil for ourselves, and even exported some. well now that we're not allowed to drill to feed the expanding need for oil, we have to import something like half of what we consume. importing = expensive.

so don't act like some dude at exxon just has a profit dial and an evil look on his face as he cranks it. it's muhammed abbabbabbajab towelhead over in saudi arabia with his 500 ft yacht and 400 bentleys that's making you pay more at the pump.
yes but if we drilled in Alaska, it wouldn't be mr habib towelhead setting oil prices now would it.

Well a quick search shows we use roughly 400 million gallons of gasoline/day, so is the CEO of exxon going to donate 100 million dollars and drop the price of gas by $0.25/gallon for one day? Yeah that'd solve a lot...

hey something is better than nothing and certainly better than ripping off the general public! and congress seems to think these companies have a hand in the prices/availability.

and drilling in Alaska has a lot more costs than just environmental. ive heard some of you on here bash alternative energy sources like wind farms ("but yeah who wants a million of those in their backyard?") who wants to have a gigantic offshore refinery every 200m off the coast etc etc. at least one wont stink up an entire city

omg are you serious? I consider myself a very kind-hearted, giving person; but if I made billions even I couldn't justify slicing 100 mil from my pay for $.25/gal decrease in prices for a day. That's just nonsense.

Investing that money in research for alternative fuels I could justify though

i dont think the numbers actually work out to .25 cents a day. but if i made 85 billion dollars i sure as hell would take any sort of paycut to help out the economy/average consumer, but thats just me

You say that, but you don't know what it's like to make that much money. Additionally, you can't cut the prices of Exxon gas. That would violate some sort of law I'm sure because OPEC sets the prices. If it didn't violate a law, it would cause national economic pressures for other companies to do the same and it would cause hoarding and all other kinds of BS.

I think that's a dumb idea, no offense.

there isn't a single person out there that makes 85 billion dollars, much less some oil CEO that's going to donate it all for a week of cheaper gas prices. and it doesn't matter Cat, none of that is any type of solution. the only thing that will ease our gas prices is a cheap source of oil, aka oil that is ours to begin with.

i get credited for all these great ideas on this forum. if only i was the only one who had them i would be a billionaire!

I've got no problem whatsoever with wind farms, but how will they affect the price of gas this year? Or next year? Or the year after that? And you don't have to have refineries every 200m off the coast. Refineries aren't the problem, we have plenty of em, it's the cheap source of oil that we need.

we all understand full well that you and other solutionless democrats have a problem with it. that seems to be the recurring theme amongst the entire democrat party. "we have a problem with _________". what is your solution?
