I need a new car Options

My fucking fuel pump just went out on my truck which pissed another $300+ down the drain. Not to mention I'm spending nearly $25 a day in gas, which is seriously cutting in to my beer fund.

I need a new automobile.

My truck has a KBB value of around $13k, minus probably $1k to fix the various dents from drunk assholes hitting my truck in lubbock. I can probably come up with $15k cash, putting me around $27k. If I took out a loan for the rest, I'd like to keep it under $8k because I don't need any more monthly payments to worry about.

So yeah, I'm looking at a car between $27k-$35k. Recommend some shit, cause I haven't picked up a Car & Driver in years. Three prerequisites

1. Needs to look somewhat sporty or cool
2. Needs to get at least 20 city/25 highway
3. No fucking hybrids
4. No fucking trucks. I rarely agree with Dogmeat about anything, but he's right that trucks are useless unless you need them in the field. I'll be buying a Mule to keep in Giddings for field use.

Make that four prerequisites

Two cars I've been looking at are the Saturn Sky and a used BMW 330i.


I think these look pretty fucking cool. I can get one with 250 hp and an aftermarket turbo for around $30k I think. I'd only get one if they're made with a hard top or there's a decent looking aftermarket hardtop. I hate convertibles.


My friend just bought a used (30k miles) 2006 BMW 330i for around $29k. 2006 is pretty recent, still had a 100k mile warranty from BMW, and come on....it's a fucking bimmer. A year ago if I said I'd own a BMW in the next 12 months you'd ask me what I was smoking and laugh at me. Now I can probably pull it off

My other options in that range would be a 1998 Supra 15th anniversary twin turbo (dream car), or an early 70's muscle car. Neither are that practical when it comes to repairs or getting assraped on insurance

Recommend something else if you know something in that price range.

I sat in a pontiac solstice (same car basically) at the national event this past week down here, and although yes, I'm a huge person, I physically would not be able to drive this car. I could actually wedge myself into it, but with the seat all the way back the steering wheel was between my knees. This prob wouldn't pertain to you, but might be something to think about as far as comfort level or for passengers & possibly the utility of the car. Seeing it up close though changed my mind of the car, it's pretty nifty, even though its small.

Good point. I don't really have any fat friends (no offense to you) other than Lauren, and I'm pretty sure she hates me now. My theory with passenger comfort is this - unless I'm fucking you (and I don't fuck fat chicks) or you're one of my best friends (and I only have two), your level of discomfort while in my car using my gasoline is of little importance to me.

But thanks for mentioning the Solstice. I always get the Sky and that one confused and had no idea what kind of car it was

a $30k budget should get you something pretty nice. I also got in a pontiac G8 this past weekend, that sucker is nice. it was comfortable as hell, interior felt like a performance car, plus its V8 RWD. might not meet your 20 mpg city requirement though. They built it to be a BMW killer.

also I know what you said about trucks, but I'll throw in that mine gets 18 city / 20 hwy. not quite 20/25 but not that far off. and you can get a pretty nice truck for $30k

Well that always does sound weird, but it does make sense at some point in a vehicle's life. As soon as you start having an unreliable vehicle where you're spending a few hundred bucks on it to keep fixing it all the time, it's no longer really practical to keep pouring money into it fixing it.

$300 for a new fuel pump. Before that it was $800 for new tires. After that it'll be $2000 for a new tranny.

Shit adds up fast when you have a 7 year old truck with 90,000 miles on it.

And for the first time in my life, I can't justify owning a truck for safety purposes at the expense of gas prices.

And yeah, Chuck, yours says it gets 18/20. So did mine, and I get 8/12. Granted, the truck is old, but I use all kinds of fuel additives, have a K&N filter, and four brand new balanced tires.

well it is a newer truck (2006) but it does get 18/20. I was just throwin that out there. any vehicle's gas mileage will dimish over time. I love it when this guy here with a 2003 ford ranger 4 banger asks me how I afford to drive this 1/2 ton crew cab 70 miles/day and he has this bewildered look on his face when I tell him I get 18mpg and he says his ranger only gets like 16.
