For those who would like to upgrade (free) and have a PPC 6700, check out this post:

Looks way better than WM5, and seems a lot faster so far too. A huge upgrade is their "cooked" ROM adds SDHC drivers, enabling up to 8GB mini SDHC cards (which I just snagged from newegg for $31). On a completely different sidenote, flash memory in general is getting huge and getting cheap. In the same order I grabbed a SDHC card for my new camera, 16GB for $68. |

6.0 is okay, 6.1 has some wierd bugs. I don't reccomend the upgrade on an older device unless you really have a reason for it, it takes a bit beefier hardware.
Unfortunately, Palm never saw fit to release a bootloader for any of the Treos, so we're left out of the kitchen/firmware/rom upgrading goodness. Still though, it does what I need it to do. Theres lots of streamlining that goes into cooked roms, some run WAAAY faster, some are a lot buggier, some just suck, some are super bloated. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

so far the cooked ROM seems to run faster than WM5 did
