not to throw more fuel on the fire (i like southwest), but:
Southwest grounds 41 planes in inspection flap Carrier cancels 13 flights out of Hobby Airport http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5613285.html QUOTE Southwest Airlines, which runs about 80 percent of the traffic out of Houston's Hobby Airport, has grounded 41 jets as it addresses inspection problems that resulted in a $10.2 million federal fine for flying planes that didn't get required checks for structural cracks.
The airline didn't give further details. But flightstats.com, which tracks airline traffic, showed at noon today that Southwest canceled nine inbound and 13 outbound flights from Hobby. |

You have nothing to worry about. Southwest told on themselves, and they grounded the flights to correct the issue. They have a flawless flying record. I wouldn't think twice about it. flawless until the first one falls apart -------------------- |

I wouldn't say they're flawless. A few runway runoffs and some other problems bring me to that conclusion. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I think the chicago runway accident was one of the worst things that happened. Also them pulling 44 planes out of service is good. It means all the planes in question will be looked at before passengers get on them again. |

Oh I agree, they're definitely safe and that is in part because of their model (all Boeing 737s) use, the process, etc. After flying Northwest where they use duct tape to hold things together, Southwest seems like an angel airline. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

So I didn't die. However, these two ladies sitting behind me on the flight were going to get bitch slapped for talking so much and so loud at 6 AM. I did see the Vice Chair for the DNC on the flight, which was pretty cool.
But I didn't die. We'll see on Monday though, when I come back to Texas. |

At least you didn't have to fly today like I did... H.O.L.Y. C.R.A.P.
I got a phone call this morning at 6:30 saying my 7:20pm flight was delayed, then cancelled. I start watching the flight status online and everything is cancelled almost. I get lucky and grab a seat on an earlier plane which ends up sitting at the airport for two hours. I made it home around 9pm... The ride was extremely bumpy and the lady next to me looked like she was about to lose it. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |
