Has anyone else tried this? I dunno about scientific libraries, but I can definitely see why python would be a very good choice for a command line utility or for a program that does a lot of text processing. I don't see it as a very useful language for GUI design though.

Well, yes and no. Is there anything revolutionary that will replace C# or C++? No. Is it worth your time? Maybe. Python's a pretty trivial language to learn and it is a lot more readable (at least to me) than C#. I feel that it makes writing really tedious code relatively easy as well.
