The flight was delayed by 14 hours, they rebooked as many they could, still had passengers, and flew the flight. Now the greenies are up in arms.

Had they canceled the flight, the people waiting for the plane there would have had their flight canceled, creating a ripple effect in the scheduling for at least a day or two.

I can guarantee that there was cargo on that plane that, coupled with the returning passengers, made the trip worth it.

Yeah, canceling the flight would have been atrocious customer service...

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

seems reasonable to cancel it to me.

i've had classes canceled that only have 5 people register.
i know that has nothing to do with the environment.

I think it's BS when an airline cancels a flight due to passenger counts. If they dont make money on a flight because of screwed up and didn't properly populate it, it's their own damn fault.

It's not that simple. That plane was expected in London for a return flight for 275 passengers. If you cancel it out of O'Hare you screw those 275 people and all of their connections, turning their trip into a nightmare since most London flights are overbooked as it is.

Certain jets have to be certain places due to range, capacity, and maintenance schedules. Removing one flight requires an entire rework of a week+ of scheduling.

This is somewhat of myth. The only flights that get canceled due to passenger counts are those that are tiny to begin with (puddle jumpers) and run on more frequent routes.

I've had a Roanoke-Charlotte flight canceled due to load (2 passengers). I just hopped on the next one that was an hour and a half later.

But how does that make it any less BS?

And that's absolute shit customer service IMHO. You paid for that flight at that time, and they decided their profits were more important than your time.

Well it was US Airways, so I didn't expect customer service from the get go wink.gif tongue.gif

They offered to put me on a Delta or United flight both of which would have made even more late to my final destination (Houston) so I declined. The other guy took the United flight.

It's not really BS because they offer to take care of you in these situations, if you ask to stick to your original routing, that's what you get. For the most part you will get what you are entitled to if you are not a complete ass about it.

It is extremely important to read through the different contract of carriages for the different airlines. They are small and easy to read but shed a lot of light on what the airlines are obligated to do (basically get you from A to B ).

Well, it'd be one thing if the flight was not possible (i.e. weather or some such) but when it's their fault, it's BS IMHO. I understand that they will often comp you, but the principle is what bugs me. And yeah I'm sure they write up all kindsa stuff in their contract that pretty much obsolves them of any requirement to get you where you've paid out the ass to go on time.

What's funny is that on a recent Continental flight they claimed "WX" or "weather" as the reason for the delay and eventual cancellation. Since it was weather they didn't have to put me in a hotel or anything, so I did some research since it was clear blue skies all over the country and found that the originating flight (4 flights before mine) was delayed by two hours because of high winds. Stupid.

i agree with some of the comments on the article. like attacking people who own private jets and make a billion trips a year around the world carrying 2-10 people. if i had my way that wouldnt be allowed! but if i had my way hopefully that would be avoided entirely because people wouldnt be so ignorant to do that
