Maxtor got bought by Seagate, if I recall.
And for the record, I hate WD's, I've had a lot of DOA drives from them, and I even got DOA drives as REPLACEMENTS for other RMA'd DOA drives. (WTF?) That being said, I do believe that my desktop has all WD drives. I used to be a Maxtor man, though, and still prefer Maxtor drives. Most of my drives are hand-me-downs or surreptitiously acquired now anywhos. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

i just bought the Samsung 500GB drive, which has awesome reviews and is only $100 and converted it into an external drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822152052 -------------------- ![]() |

I bought a Maxtor....Best Buy had it marked at $132, but when I went to check out it was only $114. I was quite happy. I am liking it so far! I have it plugged into my Airport Extreme and am using it for wireless backups through Time Machine.

they usually don't cost all that much more than the non networked versions, and totally worth it IMHO. the WD 1TB drive I got was $50 more ($400 instead of $350).

Now, what's the difference? Like does it have an ethernet port in it or something?

Yeah, it will essentially make the drive seen as a computer on your network. You'd just plug it right into your router.

Yeah, it will essentially make the drive seen as a computer on your network. You'd just plug it right into your router. That's kind of what he's doing, the interface is just USB vs. network cable. The Airport Extreme has a USB port and allows you attach an external hard drive that can be seen on the network. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

That's kind of what he's doing, the interface is just USB vs. network cable. The Airport Extreme has a USB port and allows you attach an external hard drive that can be seen on the network. If you buy the WD one that has Gigabit ethernet, you'll get better transfer rates than using USB. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome!
