For the first time ever, I don't really care about Valentines Day because my boyfriend puts in a ton of effort to always make me happy and I do the same. That being said, I still would be sad if I didn't get to at least see him on this day. It's the day of love, and I want to be with the person I love. Stephan has made some compelling arguments for why it's not that big of a deal for him and his gf....because they are aware enough to make every day special and to be there for each other. I'm traditional though, so I also see Cathryn's side. It's always nice to have that person there. Unfortunately, I'm gonna go to San Antonio to see him, and he lives in the barracks so we are going to have to tough the Valentine's Day crowd somewhere because we want to have dinner. I might just say let's go to Denny's or something cuz I don't want to wait 2 hours to sit down for a meal.

I don't care if people make a big deal over it. I just don't myself. We do plenty of cute/romantic things on a regular basis, so we don't really need the reminder of a special day or anything. I'd rather have special celebrations on personally significant holidays like birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Valentine's day is just another day when restaurants are too crowded. exactly. -------------------- ![]() |

Can you explain why it is so important to celebrate Valentine's Day? You are making it sound like everyone is in the wrong for not doing what others do simply because they don't value it. What's the value you to you? Do you expect something or someone to be with you on Valentine's Day? Do you have an expectation that you'll be treated well? I'm not trying to beat you over the head with this idea I'm just discussing it. my frequent use of !'s are habit and intention to show im being lighthearted. To me valentines day is as important as any holiday i celebrate like x-mas or thanksgiving. though for me those arent like drop everything and go visit family super crazy festive party times. its just a holiday and something to celebrate. but valentines day is special in that it is just a day to celebrate and dedicate to someone you love and them only. i always have the expectation that ill be treated well. i dont know if you have it in your mind that people in relatonships other than yours dont do anything for each other except for this one day out of the year. i dont EXPECT anything else because circumstances can be difficult. for instance my boyfriend lives in houston so it is difficult to be together. but we have it worked out to where he's flying here on Thursday and we are spending the weekend together. i expected that we would do something whether that be he try to surprise me somehow with mailing me something from houston like pictures he took or a little candy. to me valentines day is different from all the other days we make a nice dinner together, go out, or have lovey dovey time because v-day is set aside to celebrate being able to do that and that only. that makes it extra special. its symbolic. if you have romantic nights and talk about your love every friday than v-day is to kick it up a knock. it just holds extra meaning to me but yeah i agree with brandon it shouldnt just be all about the girl. its celebrating each other and what you have. guys appreciate candies, a good meal, presents, even flowers sometimes. but my point is you dont have to spend any extra money on vday to make it meaningful. its just inherent. maybe its just my french side kicking in!? but seriously people - try v-day out because youre missing out! -------------------- Little monkeys making money

what really pisses me off are the people that believe they have some ungodly need to be attached to someone on valentines day...
like this day makes it anymore important than president's day or nigger chicken day its an excuse for people who HAVEN'T been that way to force themselves into it... and naturally the consumer market will take advantage of that and in my opinion has ruined any innocent meaning behind it -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good.
