its not oh everyone else is doing it so i am. if you ever feel like that then dont do it! both people should feel like its the day to set aside and really make the other person happy and special. like i said its not "oh i have to give you this" its "yay i GET to do this"

Valentine's day feels exactly like "Oh everyone's doing it!", there is nothing special about it. It's just a day, just like every other day, the only difference is, every other day roses aren't $100 for a dozen.

v-day is cheesy and romantic but that just makes it cute? you cant get big chocolate candy hearts just any day in the year!

Yes you can.

I think it's an excuse not to make more effort to do little romantic gestures on a more regular basis.....

"Hey Honey....here's some flowers and chocolate...wanna do it?"

I would prefer regular small things than one big lame forced gift.

I'd add something but I'd just be repeating everything stephan said.

We're going out to dinner either tomorrow or Friday night. The only decent place I can get a reservation for is hudsons on the bend and that'd be $200 with wine and everything. No thanks. I tried Dorsia but they just laughed at me

then dont go out to eat

again where are you people getting these quotes "hey honey heres flowers. now lets do it" thats not what people on v-day think or feel. as least they arent supposed to be like that!

when youve got two adults who work busy jobs or especially once they have a family, romantic time together will slip if you dont think so you need to get some pre-martial counseling so you know what to expect! if you are someone that is mushy gushy all the time then why would you choose not to be so on valentines day? id think itd just be like weeeee

if you do something uber special on v-day i dont know anyone who wouldnt agree to whatever freaky sex act was asked of them. unless your partner is like a dead fish in bed then id suggest getting change. thats another reason why v-day is awesome. a day and night solely dedicated to getting it on!

when she crashes at my place, i make breakfast (not cereal and milk)

so for valentine's day, she's buying me dinner! HA

I don't need pre-marital counseling because I think everyday is going to be just la-di-da, as that's the exact opposite of what I think is going to happen. Life is stressful. She works with annoying brats all day and I deal with people who have too much money.

But I'm not mushy all the time either. I just don't mind going out of my way to make her day a little better. I see my job as the man in a marriage as the person who does his best to build up the wife. Even when life is tough for either of us and even if she's having a bad day and doesn't treat me perfectly, my life is devoted to building her up.

I think the INTENT of Valentine's Day is to be special...

BUT, the commercial-ness of it as it is now has ruined that intent. Now it's all about buying flowers, chocolates, jewelry, etc. It's not about celebrating being with someone, but about what you can get.

So why not have the intent on any day? Why does it have to be February 14th?

I mean if we're going to be "traditional" why be so selective with what we choose to do traditionally? Traditionally stores were closed on Sunday, that does seem to be tradition anymore because not everyone wanted it.

Plus, doing something romantic differs from person to person. My girlfriend loves flowers, so I get her a bouquet every now and then. On the other hand, we aren't big candy eaters so I would never buy her a thing of chocolate and stuffed animals aren't really her forte.

Who says I have to buy something? Can't I just do something whenever I please?

yep.

But since people get work off for those holidays they are usually good times to see family. Plus those holidays are about family and being together.

To each their own, I'm just not going to spend a ton of money on a Russell Stovers holiday.
