So I'm on the upper crest of delving into a major case of senoritus. I'm taking 18hrs, though thats not the most I've taken, and not any super hard classes but 8am ones every day of the week. I'm also busy with labs and my organization. I'm finished with grad. school applications so I've kind of got it in my head that what I do now doesn't matter as much as last semester, but I know thats wrong.

I've starting skipping class for entire days and I'm struggling to get up in the morning so I end up skipping and sleeping in till way late which just makes me not be able to sleep the next night.

I need some advice like personal stories of how someone got over it, how they planned things or arranged their time schedules to be more conducive to making it to class?!

Are all of your classes early or do you have days where you've got class off and on from 8-4 or something? If you have days where you get done early, I would recommend taking a break for an hour or two after class, then work on any homework/projects, then have the evening as free time. I think dragging school-related stuff all throughout the day makes it even worse.

my mornings are typically back to back classes but my afternoons have too many breaks which is annoying. some days i dont get back home until 5 but your idea would work pretty much any day of the week. i think it would help its just hard to get myself to start doing anything! i was somewhat of a procrastinator before but now i really am. i will try though

Also, dunno if it's an option for you, but you might consider taking a break from school after you graduate rather than jumping right into grad school. If you're tired of it all now, grad school may only make it worse. Once you're accepted somewhere, I think you can usually defer your entrance date by a semester or two without having to reapply.

i didnt know about being able to defer entrance but thats a consideration. though my grad school work is going to be a lot more personal involvement in something i believe in then taking these dumb classes im taking here!

Yep, you can defer entrance sometimes for more than a semester or two. It's what I've done for Texas State and it's what I'll do if I'm accepted elsewhere in the coming couple months.

It sounds silly, but what helped me a little was getting a calendar, boldly marking the day of graduation, then doing the whole "Xing" off the days until then. It visualized the goal.

You can still tear your hair out wanting to be done, believe me. I jumped straight into grad school and hit another bout of senioritis the summer before my last semester (my first bout was in my 4th year of college... I skipped class for the better part of three weeks). In retrospect, though, job-hunting after graduation was much more harrowing than senioritis. wacko.gif

I know how you feel. I am so entirely sick of school that it's not even funny. I'm in my last semester, but my classes are hard and a lot to keep up with. That's where I get my motivation to go to class. Try going to bed an hour or two earlier every night and force yourself to get up for class in the morning (which in turn will make you more tired at the end of the day and youll go to sleep earlier, getting yourself back on track). There is no way I'm gonna do grad school right away...and not just cuz of my pregnancy. I just need a break. Work for a year...seriously, it will change your whole aspect on life, and even though you are dedicated to your grad studies, you will appreciate them even more after having taken a year off in between undergrad and grad. All I can say now, is that if your make it a point to force yourself to attend class every single day for a week, you will be able to get back on track and focus easier.

I used to (and to a lesser degree still) have a problem with procrastination (which my recently diagnosed ADHD has a lot of effect on). There are a lot of tricks that some people will suggest to overcome procrastination, but if procrastination is a major issue, it's usually habit forming. Thus, my advice is just to try something different. That is to say, re-arrange your schedule just for the sake of re-arranging it, try changing where you go to do homework, try changing the way you study, etc. Even if it doesn't work, it will at least get you unstuck.

As for skipping class, it's a good idea to narrow down why you're having problems going to class. For me, a lot of it was that it's simply a pain in the ass to go to classes at Tech. I had to drive all the way across town to get there, then spend 15 mins walking to class. Lately, I've taken to riding the bus to class. It takes longer to get there, but it's really not as much of a hassle and saves gas.
