i think its cute. making things uber romantic and special is never a bad thing. if you are with someone that treats you like a sibling except on valentines day than yeah maybe theres a problem. with you because you are still dating them!

i used to be HARDCORE against things like this. i was the most masculine man id make all you men cry like little pansies. and i actually did do that with men as i stomped on their souls and ate them. then i got into a relationship thats practically perfect with a guy that is. and now im like a little cute puppy. so i think its about finding that person that makes you want to go the extra mile

edit: but i have a question. for people who dont think it ought to be made a deal over, would you then be fine with your SO just disappearing for that night or going out with some friends without addressing it to you first?

i dont know any women that make a fuss about valentines day. but what would that be? demanding a $500 present? is asking to see your significant other too much to ask? my boyfriend is flying to lubbock for a long weekend but its mostly because we like to be around each other and its been a month since we've gotten to do so. candy will be exchanged because its CANDY and we are going out to dinner.

i think people that are so opposed to valentines are because their love advances have been spurned hardcore in the past or they cant tap into their cute side and share that emotion with someone else! because sometimes if you do make a big deal out of valentines day its waaaaay worth it for both people ::wink::

I don't see anything wrong w/valentines day... but it does have the unintentional effect of reminding those of us that are single that we are single wink.gif

It's not that I don't like it because a woman has made a fuss or I have been spurned. I just think it is pretty stupid to have a holiday so that you can "reinforce your love" by buying cheesy heart shit and going out to
dinner... oh yeah and buying a Hallmark card...

each person should be making each other happy/special most days out of the year and then to have a mandated set day that pretty much says "we have to do XXXX today so we can be all love-dovey" is pretty stupid.

it shouldnt be we "have" to do this on this day. it should be "yay we GET to do this on so and so day". its a day to go extreme with making the other person feel the best in the world. because you cant do things like that most days out of the year because then youd run out of money, burn out or just get annoying. but going extreeeemeeee doesnt mean spending a 1000 bucks

I don't care if people make a big deal over it. I just don't myself. We do plenty of cute/romantic things on a regular basis, so we don't really need the reminder of a special day or anything. I'd rather have special celebrations on personally significant holidays like birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Valentine's day is just another day when restaurants are too crowded. tongue.gif

Since there is no expectation of us doing anything on Valentine's night, yeah, I'd be fine with it.

I make it a point to buy my girlfriend flowers on random days, cook dinner for her when I know she's going to be late, and set aside time to spend with her and her alone (no tv, no friends, no distractions). Since I know this is the woman I want to marry it's important to me to show love even when none is expected or called for, whether that's washing dishes or giving her feet a massage.

That's just me though...

My boyfriend and I are the same way. Though the cooking dinner for each other thing will be much easier once we live together. laugh.gif

One nice thing about being gay is you don't have the expectation to buy a diamond ring or bracelet or earrings or shit like that.

Just buy him a bottle of poppers or something.

Why? I think it dilutes any meaning...
