Why the hell do you need your contacts on a portable MP3 player? That's what desktops, laptops, PDA's, cell phones, and rolodexes are for.

Eh I was just listing them because I thought they were notable features. I know some people would rather have a small, simple phone, and let everything else be on another device. Syncing up contacts/calendar in general is awesome IMHO. Doing so has come in extremely handy for me (as I'm insanely forgetful).

yes.

Hmm this goes against everything I've ever seen w/friends who own iPods. Is this new? I know lots of people who don't even bother using ipods because they can't just drag & drop songs onto them like they can with every other mp3 player out there.

Winamp 5.2 has iPod support built-in.

so you still need something other than windows explorer to put files on an ipod.

Well there are ways to do this as well but I haven't seen it personally.

there are plenty of ways to put music on an ipod not using itunes. explorer included.
and no putting any mp3 on an ipod is not new. just drag to itunes (or whatever) and put it on the ipod. just like any other song.

http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/07/08/10-al...ging-your-ipod/

and do a google search for ipod windows explorer. tons of stuff.

i think the ipod interface is enough reason to get an ipod over any other mp3 player. so easy. so clean.

your cons of the ipod can be fixed. videos can be converted.
the cons of the zen can't be fixed. you can't fix the interface or the clunkiness.

I agree with this post. I think I'm going with the iPod.

I was going to say this.

There are a million converters out there that can convert from all formats. Only problem is they take forever and a day to convert a two hour movie (upwards of 12 hours). I heard Quicktime Pro can convert them in much less time (1-2 hrs) but I don't feel like spending $29.95 to find out

I'd heard the exact opposite. At any rate, you have any programs to recommend (preferably free ones)?

3GP converter for PC. I use it when converting movies for my sister's nano, probably like 45-55 mins each. And my home PC is slow.

I have no idea. I either started a thread about it here or googled "Ipod video codec converter" or something. Either way, I found numerous free programs. Some were really good, some sucked

a couple more:

Zen:
Standard Headphone jack
Replaceable battery
FM Radio

Calendar & Contacts that sync w/outlook
No DRM/iTunes required
70% larger screen

I had my Ipod stolen several months back, and I miss it. It was a 30GB video....great player, easy to use.

...Though the bolded part above may have just sold me on replacing that Ipod with a Zen.
