Anyone use flax oil as a nutritional supplement? I don't mean the capsules, I mean using the oil in food. I tried some in a smoothie this morning and it was nasty as all hell, made me want to barf. I'm open to ideas on what to do with it (assuming the oil isn't just rancid, which I doubt since it's a brand new bottle). If I can't find anything tasty to do with it, I'm gonna stick to making flax crackers and the like...

I wouldn't use it in cooking as it is high in fat. If you don't like the taste try taking the pill form.

Well all oils are high in fat. But it's not supposed to be used in cooking because it breaks down very easily with heat.
I do like flax seeds, but I'm not impressed with the oil. -------------------- |

I've seen a few recipes where flax seed oil is used as an ingredient, I'll have to find them (they were for baking). -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

i've never used the oil, because the ground seeds work well for me. i put them in smoothies before and they have a mild nutty flavor.
and as far as pills go christine, fish oil gives you more omega 3s than flax oil because of the way your body breaks down the flax oil. and i don't think you're a vegetarian so i recommend fish oil caplets |

why use it if it tastes like ass and you can get the nutrients elsewhere? Because fish oil doesn't taste much better -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Because it cost like 12 bucks for the bottle and I'd like to use it if there's some palatable way to. Just because I can't stand it in drinks doesn't mean I wouldn't like it some other way. *shrugs*

Screw it, I'd rather just eat fish and flax. Screw this oil stuff.

Well... I'm not too terribly concerned with upping my protein intake. Kidney problems are a bitch.

I take both flax and fish caplets when working out. I have no idea if or how they help, but I read it in some fitness magazine and I figured they knew more than me
