http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/12/18/h...d-_n_77315.html (sorry couldn't find a good article)
The article only points out that Huckabee says "Christmas is about Jesus Christ" when in fact he continues to say "... and family and friends". It's a Merry Christmas ad. Now people are up in arms about the supposed "cross" (which turns out is a bookshelf). First, who cares? It's Christmas, last time I checked, Christmas was supposed to be about Christ. Second, if he has a cross does it matter? Can't he say whatever he wants? If people don't like it, don't vote for him. I'm not for Huckabee because I think his politics on certain issues are questionable but this is insane. I guess if he had a Christmas ad with a 18 yr. old girl elf sitting on his lap while he did tequila shots it'd be ok. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

That's what I'm getting at though. Why does my desire to wear an Astros t-shirt make you feel like I have to be part of a group? I wear the shirt because I like the Astros, not to try to make some fucking statement. I'm not trying to affiliate myself with some damn group.

Now you're completely off the wall here. This isn't about price. I can go find a "plain" t-shirt that costs $200. It's absolutely stupid to think that every branded item in existence somehow means that the owner has some terrible emotional problem and needs to feel "affiliated" to that group. Pride is a concept you don't seem to understand. I'm sure you take pride in something, just not necessarily the same things others do. |

I'm sure you take pride in something, just not necessarily the same things others do. what i'm trying to say is, would you wear that Astros shirt that you paid way more money for if you knew that no one at all would know you were wearing it? people pay outrageous prices for items because they are namebrand. do you think every woman in the world has the same taste in purse? hardly. but they get the designer label because they can feel confident that people looking at her would be impressed by her choice. and i am very prideful. i've faced obstacles and overcome them, and i have my share of success. that DOES NOT mean i feel it necessary to brag every time i get a gold sticker. and the point is, people want to fit in to something. they want to belong to something bigger than themselves. my problem lies in people taking credit for being apart of a group without understanding what the hell they want to be a part of. when those damn WWJD bracelets were popular, i could count only a fist full of people who could even recite the 10 commandments. the BASE LAWS OF CHRISTIANITY, and these fuckers couldn't even get that right, but they are sure gonna advertise they are christians. in this world, individuality seems to be the true sin. everyone must conform, there is way too many sheep in this world. just be happy in who you are without the need to try impressing total strangers who don't give a rat-fuck about you. -------------------- |

what i'm trying to say is, would you wear that Astros shirt that you paid way more money for if you knew that no one at all would know you were wearing it? Yes, and I have. But if I'm lazin around the house I'll put on the sleeveless ratty Astros shirt... whereas if I was going out to eat or to work I might wear the Astros polo people pay outrageous prices for items because they are namebrand. do you think every woman in the world has the same taste in purse? hardly. but they get the designer label because they can feel confident that people looking at her would be impressed by her choice. and i am very prideful. i've faced obstacles and overcome them, and i have my share of success. that DOES NOT mean i feel it necessary to brag every time i get a gold sticker. and the point is, people want to fit in to something. they want to belong to something bigger than themselves. my problem lies in people taking credit for being apart of a group without understanding what the hell they want to be a part of. when those damn WWJD bracelets were popular, i could count only a fist full of people who could even recite the 10 commandments. the BASE LAWS OF CHRISTIANITY, and these fuckers couldn't even get that right, but they are sure gonna advertise they are christians. I know what you're saying and I'm not disagreeing that it happens. There are trends, and fads, etc. I just think you're taking it a little to the extreme to assume that anyone with a fish or a double-t on their car or t-shirt needs your validation or is trying to say they're better than you. It makes you look really insecure if these things threaten you so badly. in this world, individuality seems to be the true sin. everyone must conform, there is way too many sheep in this world. just be happy in who you are without the need to try impressing total strangers who don't give a rat-fuck about you. There is some truth to this, but IMHO it's to the point where those trying to be so incredibly different are essentially just a different species of sheep. I see a lot of people who declare themselves non-conformists all following the same pattern... they wear clothes & tattoo/pierce their body in the same way that other non-conformists do, so guess what that makes them? Conformists |
