i agree that there are places that could benefit from this filter, and interweb-speak should be discouraged in general.

One of the things I always hated about WoW is that it's a hotbed for this stuff. Old school MUD's were awesome cause you had to know how to spell worth a damn and have rudimentary grammar skills or you couldn't move around in the game at all, much less interact with other players.

I credit MUD's and other text-based parsing RPG with my own enlightenment of typing, I figured out how to use a keyboard(although i'm still a 2-4 finger typer ;_;), to be critical of my spelling, and the importance of syntax in a general sense. firbll snaek would mean you just lost a battle but having to type all of 'cast fireball at snake' in a timed situation made a difference for me, regardless of how incredibly dorky it is.

These days it's all push-button gameplay and being annoying to the point that someone, somewhere, will give in just to shut you up... WoW almost seems to encourage this because there's no need for grammatical correctness anywhere in the game, and there's just enough bottomfeeding un-guided(not MIS-guided, mind you) yuppie larvae out there that they can actually create their own niches and cliques(not that they know what either of them mean) so that they can fester in their liturgical depravity.

It really is sad, with the state of the education system as it is, lacking in discipline and more concerned about results than they are about procedure, and the fact that the numbers of people allowing/sustaining this akward, malignant growth are in fact growing moreso than their antagonists, it makes me want to vomit.

The day I see my children typing HAI2U on the internet, and not out of a sense of irony, is the day they'll more than likely be sent to a foster home. No physical harm though, by that time, rigorous education and depriving your children of any sort of recreational activity will more than likely fall under abuse. Cause they won't see so much as an outside IP address until they can fucking spell 'hello' correctly and flinch whenever someone else types 'r u?' for fear that I might mistake it for their own messages.
