For people too lazy to moderate their board. If mods really want a board to be intelligent and not have all that crap on it then they will establish the rules and administer them with a firm hand. If the rules say no internet or leet speak, then any posts with such modes of speech should be deleted. If the rules say no going off topic, any off topic posts get deleted. If a thread has outlived its usefulness, then kill it but leave an explanation why. There can be no favoritism or the system breaks down. True, the system takes constant monitering, but when the system is established it has a way of monitering itself.

My favorite example is a board for a faction of a sci-fi game. The rules are posted and are explained black and white. If you violate them you are warned. If you violate them again you are gone. This has led to the creation of a very mature board. If a new member is getting out of hand, veteran members will step in before the mods even find the problem. If the person persist in causing problems and breaking the rules they are banned.

So if you want certain type of board get mods who will enforce those rules and ban those who cannot follow said rules.

Now I know this won't work right away and not for all situations, but it should eventually work for most as long as the people remain diligent.

sounds goods, but it all relies on a forum having enough active members to be able to ban people and no kill it's self
