'stros picked up Miguel Tejada woot!

gave up Luke Scott + Matt Albers + Troy Patton + Dennis Sarfate + Mike Costanzo

Overall a great deal IMHO. So long as we have a couple more deals to make to grab some pitching.

They can have their opinions. Just like you can come into every damn thread I post in to make some stupid remark about how I post.

The Astros have had one prospect out of their last 10 or so actually work out. Look at the washouts they've had just in the past few years... Chris Burke, Jason Lane, Morgan Ensberg, Richard Hidalgo. A bunch of friggin one season wonders. I'm sick of the days we had under Poopoorah where we'd bring in someone like Preston Wilson and think they were going to be our savior. Poopoorah wouldn't go after much big talent. Carlos Lee was the only one.

I'm glad to see them dump some prospects for a big name player. Luke Scott was ok but there's pretty much no place for him except on the bench. Albers was a mediocre starting pitcher, something we have plenty of. Sarfante was trade trash from the Bourn deal. Constanzo & Patton were just prospects. This really is just a Scott + Albers for Tejada deal, which IMHO is awesome.

Now trade Burke & Wigginton for a pitcher and we're good to go.

You can say that about any prospect and any franchise in baseball.

Chris Burke hit the 18th inning home run in the division series that eventually led to Houston getting to its only World Series in 2005. Jason Lane had 26 homers that same year. And Morgan Ensberg had 36 homers that same year. And I'm not even gonna talk about Richard Hidalgo, who was a prospect in 1995. This is 2007. That's more than ten years ago.

You consider those guys washouts? A washout is someone like Elijah Dukes, who will end up incarcerated before he ever sets foot in a big league clubhouse again.

You got a big name player only in name. You can find tons of 18 HR/81 RBI guys. And he's going to a hitter's park to a pitcher's park

Constanzo & Patton were just prospects.

I sat with Hunter Pence when he was signing autographs at Academy for five bucks before he got called up. At that time he was only a "prospect." Two months later he was batting .360 in the bigs. Probably would have won ROY if he didn't get injured and Ryan Braun didn't put together the best rookie season since Pujols.

Neither Constanzo nor Patton are "just prospects." Both are in Baseball America's Astros' Top 10, ahead of guys like Reineke, Einertson, and Iorg. Constanzo has arguably the best power in their minor league system and Patton has suberb control. Talk all you want about the big leagues, but don't try to argue about prospects. I've written articles for BA and I've forgotten far more than you'll ever learn.
