The latest rumor that ive heard is that the Gator Bowl has extended an invitation to Tech already. I dont think its true since it doesnt make much sense to give an invitation without the confrence championship still to play, and the big 12 still not garunteed 2 teams in the BCS. Though I do think that the gator bowl kinda secretly wants Tech to play their this year.

Actually, according to BCS rules, Hawaii was guaranteed an automatic bid because they finished in the top 12 in the final standings and they're from a non BCS conference

Kansas got the nod over Mizzou, even though Mizzou beat Kansas and ended up ranked higher in the BCS than Kansas, because the Orange bowl got to pick second from the pool of Big 12 BCS Eligible teams. That doesn't necessarily mean they have to take the second best team from the Big 12, they just get to pick second (in this case, behind the Fiesta Bowl).

Oh, and if there were ever a playoff system in college football, it should look like this: 8 teams, the six winners from each BCS conference plus two conference champs with the best record (tiebreakers, including SOS, margin of victory, etc if there are more than two teams with identical records) from the pool of non BCS conferences. Why wouldn't this work? You win and you're in. Of course, a few conferences would have to add conference championship games and remove a D-2 creampuff from their schedule. I don't recall anyone ever bringing this scenario up, but it makes sense. It would shut up teams like Georgia who were jumped by LSU because LSU played an extra game and actually won the SEC. It would also give teams like Hawaii and Utah to have a chance they belong
